So yet another revival/tour. The West End is so stale it's unreal. I mean of all things to come back Mary Poppins is a good one i guess but really when there are so many new things that could come over from Broadway?

mrbarnaby are you able to shed any light on whether Poppins will be a limited or open-ended run?

mrbarnaby are you able to shed any light on whether Poppins will be a limited or open-ended run? That I don’t know.. sorry. I was too depressed when I heard to even question it further. Total waste of a prime musical house. Then again, I hear the touring version was much better so maybe I will enjoy it more than the original version. Kinky B will do great business on your I’m sure

I'm going to hope it's just a placeholder for something. But you'd have thought that would happen more so if it was a DMT house. I dunno. I don't mind it if we get some more announcements this year or some new or transferring shows. It seems a bit odd to me right at the moment the only thing on the horizon is On Your Feet of all things. (to be fair i'm intrigued by it, but just saying, like who was asking for that?!)
I can see SF bringing Mean Girls over soonish though so maybe that's the next thing.

There’s probably a whole generation of children who were too young for the threatre when it was last on in London, but are now prime fodder for it.

If its a sit down of the recent tour then this is a good move I think. Kinky Boots does nothing for me and I think MP has a broader appeal so its not a dire move. Be epic if they could get Ashley Brown over for at least the first few months.

I wish it was going to the Dominion. I know it'd be too big in terms of capacity, but the flying would look epic!

I can see the commercial logic with the new film coming out at Christmas. I wish the theatre was being used for a Broadway transfer though.

I would have preferred Spongebob, but will happily have Mary Poppins back. Love the score - old and new - and I’m already dream casting Siobhan Dillon, Emma Williams and Anna O’Byrne.

Theatres need to be full to survive. They are not a charity (apart from the obvious subsidised exceptions) so something like Mary Poppins is a good choice as it's got a good track record and very popular. Broadway transfers like The Waitress and Dear Evan Hansen would excite musical theatre fans like us but jo public won't have a clue about them and would only be able to sustain a limited run. Hello Dolly would be an exception and maybe Sponge bob for its novelty value. I'd definately go and see Mary Poppins again. Anyway just my thoughts

I’m imagining Zizi Strallen will be offered this run? Assuming of course she’s finished with Strictly Ballroom by then, I never did get to see her on tour.

I thought the recent tour was superb, with a pretty great cast. I'd be surprised to see Zizi take on Mary P, unless Strictly Ballroom closes very quickly....
The Adelphi does feel like the right sort of venue for this show, and I think the flying would work very well in it. And I'll also chuck in a vote for Emma Williams as Mary (I vote for her in anything basically....)

Although there are many, many Broadway shows I would really love to come here, I don't have any complaints with MP. IMO it is 100x better than Aladdin which seems to be doing well. I can see it filling the Adelphi, (which I don't think it'll have any problems with) for a year or two, and then have a Broadway transfer go into the Adelphi.

I'd of expected Strictly Ballroom to be closed by then, so Zizi wouldn't be a shock.
I have a bad feeling both Kinky Boots and 42nd Street are gonna close around the same time. Which is sh*t considering they are maybe my two favourite shows in London.

Poppins return to the West End does mean they'll be three Disney shows in the West End which is a first, if Frozen comes over in 2020 then there will potentially be four but I fully expect Aladdin will close either in 2019 or 2020 so not to oversaturate the market.

Even though id rather Waitress to come over I think this will be brilliant for tourist season. I'd rather see it at the Drury Lane if it wasn't't going under refurbishment next year or Piccadilly rather than the Adelphi so either something new or a transfer could come over. I loved the current tour. I bet you it will tour again after the west end run. The lion king is also rumoured to be touring again from 2020 for the 20th anniversary of the show. So perhaps that could be Disney's opportunity to advertise Frozen's transfer like mad. Or perhaps Aladdin could tour at the same time who knows whats going to happen in the next year. Would be a massive shame to loose Kinky Boots but I'm all for welcoming new shows to the west end. But also a great boost for Disney theatrical, to have two or maybe three of there shows in this country at the same time.

Mary Poppins will do well - its a family show and there is a new generation of kids now for it. I didn't see the tour but the original show at the Prince Edward didn't quite have the successful run they thought - although it did run for 3 years - I think longer was expected. It caused a bit of furore at the time as kids under 3 were banned and it was recommended for kids aged 7 plus as it was too scary! I think this got amended for Broadway.
Wouldn't it be loverley (wrong show) if kids were banned altogether?

I liked the original uk tour as temper, temper was one of my favs in the show. playing the game is ok but temper temper fit suited the show more

The London production was very expensive to run IIRC with the house set, it’s surprising that it ran longer on Broadway, they only closed it to renovate the New Amsterdam and make way for Aladdin
