Interesting that he mentions it is a new production. I wonder if they will be making a number of changes. It’s not a new production- it’s the tour. Which I guess is ‘new’ to London.

Interesting that he mentions it is a new production. I wonder if they will be making a number of changes. If MB is back choreographing it can’t be that different. I’d imagine it’ll be the tour - and possibly some beefed up choreography for Charlie? looks like they’ll be tailoring the choreo to Charlie and Zizi’s skills

They added extra dance stuff for Charlie in Hello Dolly that almost stole the show from what I've heard, so of course the more dance the better when he is concerned.

Can a mod change the title of the thread now ?
Delighted with this news! I adore Charlie and I love this show. It's obviously going in because of the new movie but no complaints from me.

I dont think I have ever been happier with any theatre news.
This is the first West End show I ever saw, and to have it back in its original home is perfect.
Also love the casting of Charlie as Bert, that will just be perfection.

Does this mean that the Hello Dolly possible transfer with Charlie is now less likely?

I suspect they are going to use the tour set but, The Prince Edward was Mary Poppins Original home so they might have some of the original set in storage somewhere that could be used.
Fun Fact! In Hello, Dolly Charlie's partner in crime was Gavin Creel who 10 years ago played Bert with Scarlett Strallen at the Prince Edward!

What wonderful news to wake up to. Loved the tour version, loved Zizi and loved Stemp in ‘Sixpence’. What could possibly go wrong?

Does this mean that the Hello Dolly possible transfer with Charlie is now less likely? As Mary is due to open sometime in September/October it still makes a 12 week run with Charlie possible starting from April/May.

Hurrah! Feel completely 'Meh' about Waitress and Come from Away and to an extent 9 to 5, BUT Charlie in Mary Poppins is finally some exciting news. He's such a great actor and Cam Mac can totally be relied upon for a quality production
Hope he'll do another of his live cast recordings....

Very pleased by this, too. I started to watch Mary Poppins (the movie) many years ago and found it so twee and saccharine that I turned it off after 20 mins. So I somehow never got around to watching the stage version wherever it turned up. Last year I gave the movie another go and suddenly liked it quite a bit, so the announced revival was welcome news to begin with and now with this casting I'm really glad I waited this long. I adored Charlie in Half a Sixpence and am glad we got him back here.

No they are not using any original set- that version will never be used again. This is the tour set with a couple of new elements. As happened on tour- a new false proscenium will be built for the Prince Edward but the set is existing from the tour.

I saw this on tour and thought it was magical, so I'm thrilled to have the chance to see it again. Also loved Charlie Stemp in Half a Sixpence, he'll be brilliant in this.

I’ll admit I’ve never seen the show before so I’m very happy this is making a comeback, especially with that casting. Loved Charlie in Half a Sixpence so I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in this role.

Well I love me a Mary so I'm happy. I also never saw it in the West End so count me in.
(I also thought, foolishly this was the kind of show that brings universal joy, one glance a twitter and apparently it means we're going back to the dark ages. To which I say you need a spoonful of sugar kids)

Well from one extreme to another; the rather underwhelming confirmation of 9to5 has been rather dwarfed in insignificance now Zizi & Stemp have been announced for Mary Poppins. I think its a wise call to try get another summer of family audiences into Aladdin and at least its not another January closing which would have made London even bleaker come 2019. All in all, great news for a Friday morning.

Well Mary and I have something in common, namely that we're both practically perfect in every way so I couldn't be more thrilled to see it back in London's glitzy West End.
The thrill of seeing Gavin Lee dancing upside down during 'Step in Time' and then Laura Michelle Kelly flying up into the gods, waving at the riff raff up there was so amazing to me at the time.

I adored Charlie in Half a Sixpence and am glad we got him back here. Hah, I used to find it somewhat unsettling, even a little scary as Mary (or at least Julie Andrew's version of the character) and Mrs Banks seemed way too cold and emotionally detached for Balkan standards, where if a child is not daily smothered in vigorous displays of love by the parents, grandparents, aunts etc. it's basically considered negligence. (And this lasts until the child is well into their middle age)
