Yes, definitely the divorce and money - but this information was fed to us late in the day so all the deducing I'd been doing about the children's motives suddenly changed in importance. Anyone else apart from kathryn think they were all in on locking Bill Nighy up at the end? I still think it was just Kirsten and the others thought he was at the bottom of the lake. |

I thought they all knew, that it had been the result of the confrontation and the boat was the set up for everyone else. She couldn't have got him down there otherwise?

I saw the earlier TV adaptation in the DVD shop this weekend, with Miss Marple shoehorned in somehow. I might buy it out of fascination.

Maybe the children persuaded father to kill mother, then got revenge on father?

So just me then. I'm still not sure - what about Alice Eve who was spliced into shot in her bridal dress standing on the jetty? Would she have been in on it too?
I just got the impression from the way Kirsten was acting immediately before The Final Reveal that she was hugging a big, happy secret all to herself. Whatever, I enjoyed it.

I agree with this theory as well. Did I miss something about why the father killed the Matthew Goode character? Was it because he thought MG had figured out he killed the mother? |

I think so, or at least would continue to encourage the examination of what had happened and wouldn't be easily shut up like his actual children.

Was it because he thought MG had figured out he killed the mother? When he's drunk in the hallway in episode 3 he looks up to an unseen character and says "oh, of course - it was you" or words to that effect. Fate sealed! |

How did Nighy get him upstairs, undress him, get him into the shower, inject him....all unobserved. Quite enjoyed it but not Bill Nighy or the accents of the kids grown up, they all seemed a little forced. And the direction was a little indulgently artistic... I'll stop now. "Quite enjoyed it", will do. |

I quite enjoyed it. Don't know the book at all, so I have no idea if they change things or whether it's better or worse. As a standalone drama I found it entertaining. I don't really understand why Bill Nighy suddenly popped out and killed her though to be honest. She was vile to everyone, yes, but what prompted him to bash her in just then? And having found he killed her why didn't the kids say "Oh well done !!" ? Anna Chancellor was excellent, but I didn't believe for a moment she'd even know what a fall-out shelter was let alone build one - the chance of a bomb falling within 500 miles of that remote place was unlikely anyway. Same as most here I sort-of guessed who did it and thought it was entertaining. It had high production values - I kept thinking of the cost and inconvenience of them re-filming all those scenes though. |

1. Wife controlled the money. We had that quick scene where wifey indicates the money comes from her so divorce not an option for him ( those were the days, eh?)
2. The rooms of the disabled guy were on the ground floor. We saw comment of wife asking for that earlier and it was then established his rooms were round to the right of the staircase.

Felt sorry for the wheelchair guy, his best friend was killed in a car crash in Downton Abbey and then he was paralysed in a car crash himself in this one - no wonder he was a bit grumpy. |
