Lyndsey Turner or Jamie Lloyd. Lyndsey Turner might be good, but she is very publicity shy, which would be a bad fit with the Donmar. You can't imagine her wanting to have her picture on the front of the Evening Standard! Lloyd was once a hot prospect, but I think his spell at the Trafalgar Studios possibly dented his reputation. Maybe this is just my perception, but I feel he's been found out as a flash director who lacks subtlety, and while he has since been doing some more credible and low key work I don't think he's right for the Donmar in terms of image. I wonder about Carrie Cracknell as a candidate.

The Donmar head of casting (Alistair Coomer) is also leaving to go to the National so it looks like there will almost be a clean sweep and refresh in the key areas at the Donmar.

Lloyd was the heir apparent when Grandage left and was blindsided when Rourke came in instead so I think he'd put himself back in the frame big time and the Donmar could use a bit of his star pizzazz which it only now has intermittently (but had during the Mendes and Grandage regimes all the time). Turner as mentioned above seems way too much a deer in the headlights to want that high-profile a job, tho' she'd be EXCELLENT in the post. Cracknell has kids which can put off those with family ties who don't want to be stuck running a building as well but then again it hasn't hindered Michelle Terry from taking on the Globe, so we will see. But I think whoever it is will be someone who has previously actually directed there, as Rourke and Grandage of course had when they were appointed - which Cracknell has not. It's an intriguing scenario.

Yes but you can't expect THE DAD to stay at home and look after the kids while THE MUM brings home the bacon, can you? What a thought!!!

We could long-game this. After Ryan's cast the plays we're going to put on in our year in charge, we hold a press conference to apologise for his actions, then we all stand down, and stare pointedly across the Thames at the Old Vic.

Not at all. If people need to apologise to me for anything, I'm very gracious about it. I'll accept it with a smile.

It won't be Lyndsey. I have a feeling it'll be a woman.
As interesting as this discussion is, what's potentially more interesting is what Josie and Kate will do next.

If other recently-moved-on ADs are anything to go by, they're going to start a non-building-based production company - possibly together - and set up camp in the West End every now and then.

I imagine Josie will keep directing movies if 'Mary, Queen of Scots' does well.

Ed Hall while he hasn’t directed a film has directed multiple TV episodes It'd be good if she did have a hit with it then we'd have one more prolific female film director. A Mendes-style 'American Beauty' triumph would probably be too high an aim but I hope it's good. For Ronan and Robbie too who are just great.
I wonder if Warchus would have made more films post-Pride if he hadn't have got the Old Vic job.

On the one hand, I'd really like to see the artistic directorship go to someone other than a white man, but on the other hand, I'm immediately wondering if someone like Michael Longhurst would be up for it. Where's my prize, please?

Where's my prize, please? I'll steal his (truly excellent) jumper from the picture for you. Great appointment. And before people start decrying the appointment of a white man (not aimed at you Baemax, more the dark forces of the internet) I'm going to go out and say it's entirely possible to be both a voice for diversity but also applaud when someone entirely suitable (and talented) gets a job. Y'know even if they are a white bloke. Seriously though, great choice, enjoy his work sure he'll do a grand job. And more knitwear pictures please (I have a problem don't I?)
