I'm off to see Carole King at Hyde Park this evening and judging by some tweets it looks like the cast or at least CJ will be joining her on stage. Fantastic bit of promotion for the show.

Yes that is great publicity for the show!! I think box office isn't doing that well now so they're probably trying to boost it?

I've seen the odd offer around, how's this doing at the box office? I've seen it a few times with this cast - it's been 90-95% full every time. I'm not saying it's like that every night, but I don't think it's struggling as much as some people would have you believe.

Finals for the next cast change are this week, not sure how long the contract is for, though!

I have a friend on the show and it isn't struggling. I do wish there were more offers as I usually have to get my friend to get a ticket for me

I honestly thought that this wasn't doing well at the box office at all.
What other shows in London aren't doing well at box office now then? I know HTOHL and Guys & Dolls aren't doing that well

Overheard that she only put an extra 6% in the box office, if the two ushers chatting (indiscreetly) last weekend were accurate. I've had a look at a few seating plans recently and I didn't think it was too bad. I know there were some pretty empty performances a few months ago, but was it really always that empty?

I honestly thought that this wasn't doing well at the box office at all. Most folk on here had it closing before it had even opened, so don't be to hard on yourself.

I honestly thought that this wasn't doing well at the box office at all. Me too, George - I had an offer come through on email for it the other day. It was good enough for me to actually think about booking this time (usually the price drop is negligible for this show, so I ignore the offers!). So I assumed it must be suffering a bit in terms of sales.

Sometimes an extension is a last-ditch attempt though - hoping that enough people will want to book all the way into next summer to boost the coffers of the more immediate future. The length of this extension combined with a cursory read of the last few posts, I wouldn't assume that it's necessarily a good sign at all.

I think to extend by a whole year is a very bold move which is either a sign of arrogance (thinking they'll sell easily) or they actually have got the advance to extend that far ahead. The WoS article says "Beautiful runs at the Aldwych until 22nd July 2017" so maybe it closes then? Might just be me being sceptical. An extension doesn't necessarily mean it will last until then though

They haven't extended by a year, just five months. Even the combined booking period (pre and post extension) doesn't amount to twelve months.
Given there's little actual evidence that Beautiful is struggling, and with a cast change imminent in November, perhaps this is an extension that could just be taken at face value? It's hardly like they've extended for a ridiculous amount of time into the future (eg early 2018).

Is there any actual reason to think it's struggling though? It's a great show (literally the only jukebox musical I've enjoyed ever) and I had thought that it was still selling really well.

As I've already said, it's always been close to full when I've gone, so I fail to see why people think this is struggling.

I think because you get lots of offers flying around for the show and you don't hear much from it so I presumed it wasn't doing well but if it is, then that's good for theo show

I have had the odd look at the Aldwych website. The seat plans show good sales, but not anything spectacular. I would estimate 75%+ capacity. For a show that's over a year old I'd say that's pretty good going, I agree this is disguised by the offers, and maybe Nederlander think it's a safer bet to agree to extend this whilst it continues to tick over than put in a new show that may have less success.

I wonder what will happy with the new cast. The music of Carole King seems to be the 'star attraction' and simple theatre casting in the four leads hasn't done the show any harm. I don't know who is leaving, but supposing the leads do go as Lorna, Ian and Alan have been with the show for nearly 18 months, I wouldn't object to Vivien Carter taking over as Cynthia and Joanna Woodward as Carole. They've been with the show long enough to know the parts and I've heard great things about both of them.

I'd love to see Nikki Davis-Jones as Carole, but I don't know how heavily she's damaged her voice during the Wicked tour and if she'll ever be able to perform again.
Hasn't Rachel Tucker auditioned for the Broadway production or North American tour? Maybe she could take over in February?

Yep, would like to see her play it over here, but I remember in an interview she said she'd like to stay in New York, albeit before her coming to do Wicked again was announced. And whilst it would be a nice thought for her to take over, could Cassidy realistically stay till Februray and total about 14 months in the role.

From what I remember of the show, it looked cheap as chips to run ala Jersey Boys (not to say it didn't look slick - it did, very polished) and there are no big stars on the payroll. Can see this slogging along for another year easily, doing half its house at TKTS daily.

Saw the show tonight. Sold out completely. For a Thursday this is good. Cassidy is just wonderful as Carol - what a talent! Glad that Lorna Want is still in it - She is a star.
That said I was surprised Alan Morrison as Jerry is still in it. I thought he was the weakest link acting wise when I saw it when it first opened and gosh he has put on weight! I was shocked... Considering he is the one who has to take his shirt off, you can almost feel he knows it. Sorry guys, it's not personal but the truth. He looked chunky in that tight leather jacket.
I preferred some of the new cast esemble than the originals actually. A slick and very polished and rehearsed show, I would love to know what there rehearsal calls are! Very tight. The current Drifters are much better but it's still a balance between camp, cheesy, authentic isn't it?
Beauitful doesn't have the best book but it's a wonderful night at the theatre and my third time. Cassidy is simply beguiling as the new Carol! Go and see the new cast if you can.

Oh and it was Gary Trainor as Don Kirshner's last night tonight as he will be the alternate lead in School of Rock. He's super fun and the cast did speeches at the end. Standing ovation.

Just booked to see this at the beginning of February; on quite a tight budget so took the monkey's advice and got Stalls Z1 (the very bottom price band). Better take a cushion with me so my poor back isn't put through the grinder - hopefully it'll be worth it since I've been wanting to see this show for a long while now since I love Carole King's music.

Any sign of this slowing down? Would be good to have the Aldwych available for a new show.
