I’m really hoping this production paves the way for more K&E musicals to be staged I know the Landor did it but I'm surprised somewhere like Southwark or the Menier hasn't done Curtains which I'd have thought pretty audience-friendly

Yes she's a big name drawer for the Southwark Playhouse, but there's something about her voice that grates on me. There never seems to be any light or shade in her tone. I get that. She's a park and bark kinda gal. But she's got great energy, a great voice and her facial expressions are always wacky and good. She's good in musical comedy. 'Park and bark' is a fabulous expression and describes her perfectly. I always thought that if they ever did a show about the life of Ethel Merman, Caroline O'Connor would be the person to go to first. It's interesting how we all see things differently. I think she's prone to too much mugging, especially in musical comedy. I'm already nervous about her 'Chief Cook and bottle Washer'!

I really liked her in Gypsy and thought she totally stole all of Act II of Anastasia. I wonder who will replace her.

I always hoped that she would play Velma in the West End one day something that never happened. I travelled to Leicester to see her in Gypsy and she was just great, then saw her in 'The life of the Party" at the Menier. Roxanne is definitely my favorite bit in Moulin Rouge. There's a video on the internet with different bits of musicals she's been in, mostly Australian productions, the woman is amazing in my opinion. Only by seeing a few seconds of every show you can tell she owns those parts, Anita, Aldonza,... her Mrs. Lovett in Paris... "Broadway Bay" at Sondheim's 80th Birthday at the Royal Albert Hall...A truly triple threat in musical theatre. Can't wait to see her again

She'd be good in CHICAGO given that she is, indeed, her own best friend ......

Gemma has never screamed Liza to me, but she was amazing both as June and Louise, and was the best part of The Go Between, so great news!

She doesn't need to "scream Liza", or even particularly resemble her. The role is quite unlike most of the rest of Liza Minnelli's work; part of the reason the original Broadway production had a rough commercial ride was that Minnelli, while apparently very good in it, was cast *way* against type. On the London recording, Diane Langton sings it quite differently from the way Minnelli did it. From what I've seen of Gemma Sutton - Strictly Ballroom and June in Gypsy - I think she'll do a great job.

First saw her in Carousel @ Arcola. She was stunning in that, as she has been in everything I have seen her in since.

I booked. Literally for Caroline O'Connor. But Gemma Sutton is also great news. £25 I sort of didn't have but hey ho! Quick plug for the Southwark's excellent "Pay as You Go" scheme which gives you 5 tickets for £60, which never expire, and you can use 2 per performance. Nothing to stop you seeing the same show multiple times with this deal though. For popular shows they sometimes don't allow use of this for the final week of the show, but nothing announced for The Rink yet. southwarkplayhouse.co.uk/your-visit/payg/

She was exceptional when I last saw her as Louise in Gypsy. Think she'll be great opposite O'Connor!

Gemma has a busy summer with this and the title role in Sweet Charity at the Watermill Theatre. At least Baz had some good casting news for us last night!

OMGosh. Caroline O'Connor only went and recently met Chita frickin' Rivera! Now, let's hope that her next meeting is with a hairdresser. Do you think Chita has just realised that Caroline has stolen her necklace?

Full casting has been announced : Stewart Clarke as Dino, Ross Dawes as Lino, Michael Lin as Lucky, Elander Moore as Benny, Ben Redfern as Lenny and Jason Winter as Tony.
I'm happy to know that there will be Jason Winter (i really liked him in kinky boots)

What are the best seats in this theater? can you see well from the side seats? are the seats in front of the stage better?

It's a very flexible space and depends on the staging - normally things will be staged so that there's a good view from all sides. The seats at the edge of the side block are probably less good.
Front row is best, I think: if you have to sit on one of the rear rows, the seats on the corners are my preferred option (eg E23, 24 or the same on the side blocks and on the other side) - the layout means you've got a view of the stage with nobody in front of you.
