I know the lottery isn't on at the moment, but just checking that this production isn't selling day seats or anything along those lines?

Does the flying carpet work with hydraulics of flying wires? By magic, surely?

Come on, there must be a genie lamp in there somewhere, cost about £20 and endsup at the bottom of the wardrobe.

What has Cameron done to the theatre since Miss Saigon has closed? Polishing his lamp hoping for something magical to pop out?

Does the flying carpet work with hydraulics of flying wires? By magic, surely? Oh come on people this is theatre and all about effects! A solid piece of metal can only have two ways of "floating" in the air. A spoiler has been added for those who do not want to know how it is done. {Spoiler - click to view}
Apart from an electronic metal arm like the car in Chitty there is no other way to physically do it apart from wires. There are wires suspending the carpet, but there are motors so that the wires spin around super fast and appear invisible, rather than remain still in the connections. They are very difficult to see in low light, especially when crossing the moon etc. The audience 10 meters away cannot see them. This is how David Copperfield does his levitation tricks.

I mean... we all know the carpet flies. Is it really a surprise that the carpet flies? Has that really been spoiled? Really?

There's a carpet? Spoiler!
Actually, I'm still amazed at skill of whoever flew that helicopter around the Prince Edward Theatre night after night without hitting anything or anyone!

I think that whether it's been spoiled or not is subjective to each individual. If you feel it's a spoiler, then to you, it is. Some of us would rather the mechanics remain a mystery. I don't feel that is a matter for debate.
It's almost akin to telling an audience how a magician performed their trick.

It's almost akin to telling an audience how a magician performed their trick. I like to know how a trick is done. Magic tricks are moderately interesting when I don't know what to expect, but I find it far more impressive when I know how it's done and still can't see it happen.

Which proves my point perfectly - it's subjective. Not everyone wants to know, so spoilers work for those who do want to know and those who don't.

It's really not necessary to try and make smart comments which take mine out of context. No, nobody is shocked that there is a flying carpet in Aladdin. That wasn't the point being made. It is just the opinion of some that we would rather not know how the flying is achieved. But now it would appear that, in the spirit of good will, some posters' opinions are mocked.
Hm. Cheers.

The fact that you were so quick to defend your actions proves that you recognise my post may reflect your own actions. Which is enough for me. Apology accepted.

saw this last night. and i am disappointed in myself more than anyone else. some moments were wonderful the opening for example and Friend like me, prince Ali and generally anything with the genie. The carpet is indeed very clever as i just could not see how it was done at all or work it out. but overall i left the Theatre feeling just a bit underwhelmed. i do however think it's wonderful for children and will and should run for a very long time. the stage seemed a lot smaller.

Absolutely charmed by 'Aladdin' this evening, bit of a childhood dream to see this fully imagined on stage after being taken as a treat to see the film at Odeon Leicester Square which opened with a show & a trip to DisneyWorld in my youth & boy it didn't disappoint!
I love that it's essentially 'Aladdin' but it's own identity on its stage translation - I thought I'd miss no 'Abu' but I loved the friends element in its place!
The ensemble dance numbers are pure joy & I don't think I stopped grinning from start to finish, oh and I laughed!!
I knew from 'In the Heights' that Jade had star potential and she shone tonight!
Absolutely loved 'Genie', I have nothing to compare him to so he's my original stage 'Genie' - I got a lump in my throat in Act 1 when he talked about being free!
Loved the magic carpet effect & 'Friend like me' was genius (loved 'B&TB' reference).
I admit I'm not being critical but it charmed me & I loved it, I can't even critic 'bad behaviour in the audience' (it was a 'Full House' too) & all lovely audience people (well around me in row C30 stalls) kids all well behaved & entranced throughout (was sheer relief as its righty a family show so of course kids are going to be there!).
No sound issues for me, ok I can give one critic but the 'Whole New World reprise' in the finale is drowned out by the ensemble that you can't hear 'Aladdin' & 'Jasmine' sing their final moment!!
Needless to say I loved it!!!

It appears to be heavily sold out at the moment which is good.. Possibly seeing it again next week and looking forward to it, was definitely better here than on Broadway

Oh I'm very grateful (to you guys) for the tip off about the special preview rate...I dread to think what my £49.50 seat will actually be once its premiered!
Oh and it's only under a week in and wouldn't have a clue it was a preview performance..very polished already!!
Looked forward to hearing thoughts of this, it's going to be running a good while I reckon!
