Now this is exciting! I adore THE KING AND I, and have been wanting to see Kelli O'Hara on stage for a long time. This production sounds ravishing as well.

Her replacement on Broadway is Marin Mazzie who is in remission from her battle with cancer. Should be an amazing and very emotional series of performances.

I still haven't seen this show and I adore Marin Mazzie (haven't seen her on stage since Carrie)! I guess I should get on it...

From the cast recording and the clips, I actually thought the recent revival was all about Ken Watanabe myself although sadly I imagine he won't be transferring any time soon :-( When he says "come" in 'Shall We Dance?', it's one of the most spine-tingly thrilling things around. Kelli O'Hara was very Elaine Paige I thought, especially in some of the spoken parts.
Still look forward to this transferring though.

I wonder how big the orchestra will be. When it was last in the Palladium there were about 25; a whole string section, lots of wind and brass, two percussionists, harp. When it went on tour it was reduced to 14 then half way through the tour it was reduced further, to about 8! 14 was too few for this sumptuous score.

As it's ATG are we assuming Pheonix when G&D closes?

According to IBDB the current Broadway orchestra is 28 musicians: 5 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, 7(!) woodwinds, 3 French horns, 3 trumpets, 2 trombones, tuba, harp, bass and 1 percussion.

It is also touring after the London run, as the rights have been pulled nationwide, even amdram.

As it's ATG are we assuming Pheonix when G&D closes? There is no way this will fit into somewhere like the Pheonix, the stage is massive on Broadway! It will have to probably go somewhere like Drury Lane after Charlie...

I doubt it'll go to the Phoenix, i think somewhere like the New London could work.

Also there was talk of a Drury Lane theatre, the conflicting message on here that I is going into a ATG house, I am pretty certain that the Lion King isn't going anywhere, even though Theatre Royal, Druy Lans isn't ATG it would be gear if it goes in there, do a large scale revival something like they did with My Fair Lady would be good. Also this would mean that a fairly average show will close.
Cannot think of a reasonable sized ATG theatre this would go in.
Also The King and I requires pretty hefty wing space.

If ATG didn't throw us off, I would of said no doubt it would be Drury Lane... I doubt Charlie will see through the end of this year, it is already the longest running show at that theatre in about a decade if it makes it to the end of its booking this December, recently the Drury only does shows for about 2 years!

Good point... all the other theatres are pretty much long running shows that show no signs of closing anytime soon (including Harry Potter at the Palace!)

I can live in hope that it will kick Wicked out of the Apollo Vic *ducks*

It might not necessarily end up in an ATG theatre. I think Drury Lane or New London seem the most likely option.

With ENO in dire straits, perhaps a three month run at the Coliseum would satisfy demand?

I can live in hope that it will kick Wicked out of the Apollo Vic *ducks* Wicked isn't going anywhere just yet. It doesn't sell as much as it used too but it still gets the numbers during the weekend and does ok weekly.

I can live in hope that it will kick Wicked out of the Apollo Vic *ducks* Speaking of unpopuler unpopular opinions: I for one hope that either Les Mis or Phantom (well, actually both) will finally close for good to make room for this - or any other show. Edit: And I'd also add Lion King to that list.

Going off topic so I apologise, but I wonder whether anyone on this board will see the closure of Les Mis or Phantom in their life-time! If I had to choose one, it'd be Phantom, too.
Back to topic: the Palladium Elaine Paige King & I in 2000 was one of my first ever theatrical experiences when I was 6 years old. I remember precisely nothing about it so would love to see it again!

According to the casting call, it's a transfer of the Lincoln Center production by ATG opening in Spring 2017.
This doesn't rule out the Palladium but I think it's highly unlikely to go to Drury Lane.

How about the Harold Pinter theatre? No more Sunny Afternoon?

I'm surprised no one has said the Barbican , following the same pattern as they did with South Pacific. If it's touring then a limited run makes sense, especially with kelly in the lead just for the barbican run (again like South Pacific). I can't see The King and I sustaining a commercial west end run without a big star name
I saw it on broadway and thought it was a stunning production but I don't get the love for Kelly at all. She was ok but kind of bland. Ken as the king however was electrifying

To be fair, the South Pacific tour was far higher production values than most, but it would be a shame not to see Kellie.

She is the only reason to see it. Her aside its a very flat and uninspired production.
I think it would flop here anyway. It will have big running costs, and as much as we all love OHara- she won't get Joe public in over here. Only show queens know who she is.
