Kind Hearts and Coronets Withnail and I (though it's so sad I suppose it's not really chillin') The Big Lebowski Point Break (Keanu not remake) Some Like it Hot Sir Henry at Rawlinson End The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Rear Window (Shadow of a Doubt is my favourite Hitchcock, but it's not very chillin' out to!) Evil Under the Sun (waspish and wonderful, specially when it's p-ing down outside)
Reading this in the interval at Mosquitoes, I'll add my list when I get home, I started one the other day but a lot of the films I go back to aren't exactly 'chill out' material.
So - I'm not one of those people who can say they have a top 10 favourite films, while there are some I can honestly say are all time favourites, there are other ones that will fall in and out of favour (I've seen people on Facebook posting top 100 films or the like, how do you decide that something at number 57 is better than number 83?) but off the top of my head (I'd probably change a few if asked again in two hours time):
Withnail & I Blade Runner Apocalypse Now The Big Lebowski Rumblefish The Good, The Bad & The Ugly The Wicker Man (the original, NOT the Nicolas Cage version ) Fight Club Dead Mans Shoes The Royal Tenenbaums
If it's Christmastime (and usually the time when I'm off work and want to veg in front of the TV):
It's A Wonderful Life Love Actually While You Were Sleeping Nightmare Before Christmas The Snowman
Ferris Bueller's Day Off Gross Pointe Blank Clueless The Breakfast Club Pride and Prejudice Stardust The Philadelphia Story Romeo and Juliet (Baz Luhrmann) Star Wars Episode 4 Groundhog Day Big Speed Once Out Of Sight Practical Magic
A caveat - almost any movie musical will suck me in. I discovered Annie on a cable channel the other day, and abandoned all other plans to watch that instead!!!
I've got a ticket for that, right kerfuffle trying to book it when BFI members sales went live last week - booked it on my phone while I was in Brussels, I wasn't too happy to get the ticket and then the website deciding to reject the password I've used for the last 5 years
I haven't watched many films more than once as I tend to want to see more rather than often but some of those I have seen more than once or would watch again are:
Duck Soup The Shining Camelot Blade Runner Casablanca Wuthering Heights (Olivier etc) Monty Python and the Holy Grail Taxi Driver The Deer Hunter Dracula (Bela Lugosi) 2001 Lost In Translation Hana Bi The Chorus Interstellar Scarface (Pacino) Jesus Christ Superstar Moulin Rouge A Night At The Opera
Darby O'Gill & the Little People Meet Me In St Louis Mary Poppins Miss Marple (Margaret Rutherford) Whatever Happened To Baby Jane Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte Hammer Horror Dracula (any of them apart from the 2 set in the 1970's) Psycho The Birds Hocus Pocus Inn of the Sixth Happiness Sunset Boulevard
Just realised that there's a personal theme to my list...so my chill out movie list is basically any movie I ever watched on a Saturday night with my granny before she passed.
