There's always the Bernadette Peters' version where she sings completely out of sync with the orchestra (I know there's a name for this but I have forgotten it!). I just love this. It's another of my all time favourite play it LOUD and singalong songs. I can even do it out of sync like she does! Available on the Hey Mr Producer! concert recording. God I love that version from Hey Mr Producer, and standing in the middle of my living room screaming it at the top of my lungs. Sometimes I even hold a clipboard for the full effect. I'm picturing you with a curly perm...

Well I would argue that it's a little self-indulgent and (possibly) off-putting to both the orchestra and conductor (maybe someone who has experience of playing for musicals can offer us their opinion on back-phrasing during this particular performance!), and it certainly sounds a little weird on the ears when the sung melody is stretched so far over an orchestration that is playing the actual vocal line being sung, BUT, I never said it wasn't any good. I agree it's amazing and that's why I love it - and her rendition of Being Alive in the Sondheim section, too! OMG love that too. BAY-YANG. AAAH-LLLLAAAAAIIIIIII- VAHSorry but that one's got to have Patti for me! (And I not only sing, I "sing" the piano part as well! )

If Bernadette's back singing, Betty Buckley's front singing like she just remembered she left the iron on, has a casserole in the oven, and a taxi outside with the meter running.

What's Glenn's version like? She does a mash up with 'Sheldon Bloom' to add the line "I will make you feel well when you feel fluey"

Personally love the Denise Van Outen recording, 'Show & Dance' had been my mums CD & when she played it I enjoyed it but as it was something I had seen on stage or the televised version so I couldn't quite relate!!
When it got announced with Denise, mum & I brought tickets & I brought the CD (came out before the show) & then we went & I just loved (I also came out to my mother afterwards (officially), I took her to 'The Yard' for wine afterwards!!). Saw that twice but have not seen since all those years ago but often enjoy a listen.
'Speed Dating' would be a little out-dated now but I loved those changes & the new songs - surprised have gone back to the original writing over the revival

Saves making rings on your coffee-table. (Anyway, you are a fibber: we know you're real coz we've seen your elbow, a wrist and a watch.)

Why no second half? Does the understudy normally not do the second half of this show?

She was in fine voice on Monday night. Oooo am I the mutual Yup she bailed unfortunately, her replacement had a beautiful voice but given they cancelled the Q&A the show lasted an hour! As for the show, my first time seeing it, I obviously knew the two big numbers but not sure what I was meant to feel about the character, she falls in love easily, men are bastards….the end? I came away not with a smile and a song in my head but with disappointment and formulating an email for a refund!

Why no second half? Does the understudy normally not do the second half of this show? Nope as it's meant to be an 'intimate' Q&A with Jodie, pointless when she's not there The actual show lasts just an hour!

On danb's question re the best version of 'Unexpected Song'... how could I have forgotten this by Andrea Ross. Despite the background noise of a cabaret/dinner setting, it's beautifully sung and acted. My favourite anyway, by a mile.

Jodie Prenger is touring this again later this year. Lowry in October. Got an email for this earlier. I guess it's an easy show to put out relatively quickly and no need for the cast to distance.

It's worth watching this tweet right to the end. Although the one-act format is retained, after the interval our Jodie is going to sing some extra songs and chat. You can't say you don't get your money's worth!

You can't say you don't get your money's worth! She did this when she toured it a few years ago (see previous posts a few pages back) It's basically about 20 mins of questions the audience submit before the show interspersed with about 3 or 4 other songs

The only version of this musical I've seen was with Patsy Palmer on a tour. Have to say, it wasn't a production that despite some great numbers and music that I can remember much about. A revisit to the Lowry to see JP is in order.
