The Boyfriend was over 10 years ago now. Yikes. It doesnt seem like half that.
One of the Strallens was in it. God knows which one. They're all the same to me.

I know it’s not a musical but Hansel and Gretel by (the real) Engelbert Humperdinck is perfect for here. I saw a production several years ago at Holland Park and it was enhanced by being set in a real outdoors. Peacocks Calling and rabbits wandering around really helped create a magical atmosphere. It’s a fabulous piece that should be better known in GB.
I would have thought Into the Woods was equally suitable.

Hair could work well there, with a Woodstock festival feel to the surroundings.

Hair could work well there, with a Woodstock festival feel to the surroundings. On the hot days, sunburn could be a bit of a problem for the cast though.

Excellent suggestion for A Secret Garden and Oklahoma, that would really work!!!!
West Side Story although glorious, the production is very rigid on the requirements how it should be done, the National theatre found this, when they wanted to do it and had to abandon it. But if they could overcome that, it would be glorious in the open air.
Instead of doing revivals it would be great if they attempted to do a Broadway transfer of a new musical such as Bright Star or Bridges of Madison County.
As for revival Annie Get Your Gun or Stop the World I want to Get off jump to mind.

Personally, yes Id rather see something new and interesting transferred or produced over an age old classic revival (despite having voted Little Shop)

They already did "Into The Woods," Mr Snow, and brilliantly, too. I have the DigitalTheatre recording. I think "Starlight Express" and "Once" could both make great use of the space. I'd love to see Starlight there but I'd be worried with even a hint of rain.

The Wizard of Oz could look brilliant outdoors! Would probably be challenging though.

The Sound of Music settings are very much open to interpretation, but My Fair Lady you've got Higgins' study, Eliza's bedroom, The Embassy.... how does that uniquely lend itself to an open air production? It kind of ruins the few moments when you do need to go outside, like the Ascot Gavotte reveal.

A good director will be able to overcome inside settings in the open air theatre, but really the setting brings a production alive, I know it's not musical but Jeusarlem would be brilliant, you wouldn't even need a stage!!!

On The Town and Seven Brides had plenty of indoor scenes and worked fine. The show doesnt need to be permanently set outside, more just suit an outdoor space and can work in daylight without lighting effects etc (i cant imagine something like Phantom working there for example). With regards to new work, theres lots of fringe venues that can do that. Regents Park and Chichester are probably the best options for producing quality revivals of classic shows, without them we wouldnt get to see many as many classics
