So this is the first full-time Harry Potter who's not called Jamie, but he's still a James. Are they going for some kind of ongoing metatheatrical daddy issue thing with the casting or what?! I don't know but 'Metatheatrical Daddy issues' is the name of my next play.

Wait... It looks like they are recasting the whole show. I'm pretty sure AEA requires an American to replace a Brit who is doing the exchange program but, isn't most of the ensemble American? I guess it would be easier just to bring a new cast in to keep the show fresh.
I'm excited for James to make his play debut and Matt Mueller (member of the Mueller acting dynasty) is making his Broadway debut and finally Stephen Spinella is going to be in the show.
Forgive my ignorance but does the West End production recast everybody as well when there is a cast change?

I feel like we've had similar conversations so many times before and the conclusion has always been that no one is going to make these decisions for you, you REALLY just have to make them for yourself. That hasn't changed just because the cast is going to.

Should I see the original cast in march or wait until June? How on earth can anyone make that decision for you when no-one has seen the incoming cast? Even then it's personal preference, so no point in bumping a thread as you've asked an unanswerable question.

t.co/VksrUVAgL3?amp=1Interesting New York Times article on how Harry Potter is not facing a great time during its second year on Broadway. Well, I’m not necessarily surprised. Broadway is expensive, and the play had a print release in the US before it actually got to the stage. I find it hard to imagine there’s many serious Potter fans left that don’t know what happens in the play 3.5 years later. The excitement of it being new has gone, but to still be making around the $1M mark a week is pretty good business imo. It’ll be interesting to see what impact Fantastic Beasts 3 has on (if any) on the box office, and Daniel Radcliffe is fast approaching Harry’s age in Cursed Child (he’s 6/7 years shy at the moment) for a movie adaptation to keep things ticking along too... and there’s plenty of time to start stunt casting in the interim if things gets dire at the box office.

I wonder if expanding so quickly in the US is somewhat backfiring as there is the San Francisco production and next year will be the Toronto production.

Although It was sensational - I always questioned whether it could have been a one off event. Maybe three acts? One evening instead of two parts.
It will be very interesting to see what they have cut and what the interval/s will be!

The story will focus on predominantly on just Albus & Scorpius x

Curious to hear if anyone has seen this as one part and can compare it to the two part version. Any opinions on whether it words?

I've just booked to see it in April. At the moment there are a lot of unsold seats and ticket prices are reasonable for Broadway. I managed to book a good Dress Circle seat for £100.

Finally saw this on Broadway on Saturday night. It's still a long show but (and I haven't seen it in two parts) think it works well as one. I found the first 20 minutes of act 2 some of the most stunning theatre I've ever seen. {Spoiler - click to view} The effects were a few times spectacular and sometimes just quite neat. I loved when the entire theatre is lit with the purple neons and there is writing all over. We were sat in a box so this was particularly impressive.
The dementors were amazing however I noticed wires above the auditorium so was expecting them to fly in over the audience - this didn't happen. Is this something which happened in the original version?
As with our visit to the music man mask compliance at 100% being enforced by mask officers on each level. Also interesting to see since my last visit to New York that there is now metal detector security as you enter theatres.

Also thought that I would add a moment which I found particularly stunning: {Spoiler - click to view} When they say we're at Hogwarts and the lights slowly come up on the auditorium of the stunning Lyric Theatre with a beautiful rearranged version of Imogen Heap's 'Hide and Seek' playing in the background. Was one of those spine tingling magic only found in the theatre moments - loved it.

{Spoiler - click to view} The one part which felt very out of place was the 'swimming' scene. I recall many raving about this being impressive before. I'm sad to say I found it really stopped the action. In the new version a screen slowly comes down where we watch a not very good projection of some swimming. It feels as though in the original the actors may have been flown in during this part?
