The soundtrack is available now and I’m really enjoying it, think My Love, My Life is going to be a tearjerker. I love EP's version of this, Like An Image Passing By, which featured in the first ABBA jukebox show ABBACADABRA, produced by Cameron Mackintosh in 1983!

Yes they do sound great. Lily James seems to sin g a lot and she has a great pop voice. I’m surprised she’s not been snapped up for a stage musical yet, she did some brief singing in Romeo and Juliet and was very good.

I doubt Lily James will be signing up for a run in a stage musical any time soon. She'll be in great demand in Hollywood after this.

Just had a listen now. They sound great don’t they?! Especially love One of Us, KMKY and the day before you came. I can’t wait for the film to be released next week. I’m definitely going next Friday after work so need to get a cinema ticket booked ASAP. I just hope they do a sing along version, though quite honestly I’ll probably be singing along away even if they don’t! I just had a quick listen in the bath and the last few tracks make it sound tragic. Is it feel good or we will leave in tears? Is the chronology of the album the same as the film?

I think there could be a few tears shed watching this. I think Meryl's rendition of the day before you came could potentially be this films The winner takes it all for emotional impact.

Judging by the placement, I’m assuming The Day Before You Came is going to be in the credits

The soundtrack is definitely in the order they come in the film.Super Trooper is the credits, which is the whole cast singing and having fun, The day before you came is over the film crew credits.

Am enjoying this but my God it sounds synthetic - auto tuned to within an inch of it's life. Almost sounds as if being sung by robots.
Good to hear Angel Eyes and Fernando though. And love Why Did It Have To Be Me? Which I wasn't previously aware of....

Downloaded the Cher songs. Fernando is great. LOVE the intro to Super Trouper. It’s a shame that it doesn’t sound like she’s saying Tesco though. Oh dear Meryl’s singing now.

It’s a real shame Cher didn’t get the middle eight in Super Trouper to give it some proper oomph.

I was looking forward to this - and still am up to a point - but it's beginning to feel exclusive in that I'm clueless about some of the above comments. At this rate we will need a "Cinema Amnesty Thread" to match the theatrical one.
Could someone please explain (politely) why on earth there have been references to Tesco, and what the dickens auto-tune is and how a normal listener would recognise it? Thank you.

An often misheard lyric in 'Super Trouper' is "when I called you last night from Tesco" instead of "Glasgow".
Auto-tune is basically an audio program that can correct a singer's flaws and make them sound 'pitch perfect'. Used in a certain way it can sound very artificial.

Presume it goes something like, “I was sick and tired of everything, when I saw you last night in Tesco/Glasgow” Others may know to which recording this refers!

And I always assumed it was 'And I'm not ashamed to say the sound of Bronson cannons made me cry' - never found out what a Bronson was, but it seemed a well researched reference. Wrong.

Listening to the soundtrack and it's fun but it really just demonstrates the absolute genius of Agnetha, Frida, Benny and Bjorn. No-one has ever been able to sing the songs like them (I'd go so far as to say Agnetha and Frida are two of the greatest female singers ever) and every cover version just proves how deceptively hard those songs are.

Benny & Bjorn were magicians. Simple as that.

And love Why Did It Have To Be Me? Which I wasn't previously aware of.... I LOVE 'Why Did It Have To Be Me', it's always been one of my favourite ABBA songs. Definitely one of their typical Swedish dansband schlagers. A+F sound so flirtatiously fabulous on it. The 'Mamma Mia' version isn't half bad though.

As much as I love the stuff from about ‘Voulez Vous’ onwards, there are some absolute classics on the early albums, such as this and ‘I’ve been waiting for you’. Fantastic melody coupled with intelligent emotive lyrics. Why wouldn’t you want to learn from this as a songwriter?

Also love that in 'Fernando' Cher keeps the oh-so-Swedish lyric "since many years I haven't seen a rifle in your hand" which is one of my very favourite ABBA lyrics.

I love the ‘Believe’ style effects on Cher’s voice towards the end of Super Trouper.
