serious question bud, how many free +1s do you get More importantly what's the leg room like generally on those comps? Enough / generally good, as most PRs try not to annoy invited guests . What else anyone gets up to with the extra space they don't care about, so long as the review is positive and arrives before 10am the next day. Of the show, that is, not anything else. Now I'm catching it too. hmm perhaps it's time to test that programme whacking theory at the NT Monkey? (and I didn't even offer to whack Cumberbatch with the programme on Saturday)

and I didn't even offer to whack Cumberbatch with the programme on Saturday Strike first, ask questions later, love the thinking @emicardiff . It's how I get all my dates. Ah I see how this may be going wrong... (My darling Mother made a joke about Cumberbatch wondering what the 'red thing' was behind him, charmed Mother I'm sure)

After a tedious time at the Almeida this afternoon I went down to City Hall. Open air performance of the Odyssey in the Scoop. That was well done and good for kids and adults. Much needed lift of spirits and nice walk by the river.

After being glued to the Tour de France last month, I thought I wouldn't be able to watch the Vuelta a Espana as it's on Eurosport. I've now discovered ITV4 are showing highlights each evening. This is not necessarily good for my nerves! Meanwhile, my very married (but not much older than me) colleagues are talking about how terribly tragic it would be to be single. One of them just used the word 'Spinster'. I'll be taking my Spinster self on a bunch of lovely theatre trips and holidays and answering to nobody thankyouverymuch. In the last month I (spinster) have been on a 12 day Baltic cruise & been to theatre 5 times. My married friend has mostly been sat at home trying to persuade her 2 month old baby to breast feed. I know what I'd rather be doing!

Oh yes...have I told you the story of the friend who told me she 'couldn't really talk to me anymore because you don't have a husband' Wow... maybe she's one of those people who can only talk about one thing? Like people from work, constantly talking about work... And like parents who can only talk about their child/children. And talking of which...I saw a consultant today due to ongoing and escalating lady-related matters and he told me that I'd be unable to have the medically and personally preferred op BECAUSE I haven't had children naturally. So yet again, I've been f***ed over by not having children!

Our flight arrived at Newark 30 minutes early and we breezed through security and in to town on the train with no problems (is it always like that?! Why on earth have we been going to JFK all these years if Newark is so easy?!). The weather has even cooled off a bit. Met up with my friend's friends in Bryant Park. Won the Groundhog Day ticket lottery for tomorrow night.
So pretty good day really!

So you've discovered Newark! It has its bad days but generally it's much the best New York airport to fly into and the monorail and train into the city are extremely convenient. It's the only way to go!

Catching up. Greengages are indeed wonderful and now I want some.
Single life is a far better thing than coupled up types make it out to be. I had a long chat Saturday night with a good friend who is married and having all sorts of problems with her 3 kids and her husband/4th kid not being particularly supportive. She tends to do her own thing a fair bit but wont leave because he wouldnt cope financially on his own. For me thats no basis for a healthy life

Seconded! Been flying to Newark first by default then by design for years. Much easier especially for the transport links.

Amused by the fact that today's walk, though only 20+ miles, happened to cover 3 counties: Surrey, Kent and Sussex.

Did anyone else watch the European showjumping championships coverage today? Of course as usual with equestrianism the BBC had it hidden away on the website & red button only. More on tomorrow & Sunday. I have a big dilemma on Sunday: the individual showjumping final clashes with the Belgian Grand Prix.

Mother-Garside has doggy guests staying. Yesterday I referred to one as Dobby because frankly it looks like some kind of house-elf. Today it is Gollum. These are the worst behaved dogs I've ever encountered...it's a good thing I have extra days off or Mum would be tearing her hair out looking after the little bastards.

If my mother started dog sitting I'd leave home. Of course that might incline her to start dog sitting...

Went to Roosevelt Island this morning, and after walking up and down it, we're now having an afternoon rest. Almost headed over to Lincoln centre but decided we were too tired and in need of tea.
Got Groundhog Day this evening.

Got Groundhog Day this evening. I loved RI - went there for the first time in Novemeber. Though it was FREEZING that day! (also on our first day weirdly)

It's nice and quiet compared to Manhattan!
Groundhog Day is still brilliant, despite 2 understudies on (Rita and Ned). I think it could have been a smidge tighter but the show itself is such a joy that it still left me grinning like an idiot. Can't wait for it to come back to London.

I'm ludicrously excited. Why? Today is the drawing of the Europe League football. My mother has been a life-long fan of the (for me) local team FC Cologne and since I moved to live less than 30 mins' walk to the stadium, she has been over 2-3 times a season to see matches, dragging me along. The team has been rather sh*te for the last 20 years. Once she made a vow that if they should ever qualify for international football again, she'd go to support them on their away-game, no matter where in Europe it would be. Well, last season they DID finally qualify, so mother wants to keep to her vow. Which means for me, a) tagging along and b) organizing the travel.
Today's the drawing of the groups, so I'll finally find out WHERE we might be going. At least we can pick between three away games, but it still feels like blind booking. A running joke has been that we'll end up in Qäbälä, some outback in Azerbaijan where another German team played 1-2 seasons ago. Personally I'd laugh myself silly if we end up drawing Arsenal London - I've only planned four London trips in the next five months, so what's another one? I'm secretly hoping for some interesting town in Spain or Italy. Anyway, it's all so exciting.

Had a blast from the past yesterday. The Guardian reported that a man named Don Nichols was released from prison in Montana after serving 32 years for kidnap and murder. He had been known as a "Mountain Man" and his case was notorious because he had kidnapped a young Olympic athlete in a deranged plan to mate her with his juvenile delinquent son. The Guardian story notes that, some years later, a TV movie was made of the case. I wrote that movie - my first big TV job - and met everyone involved except Mr. Nichols who, in his prison cell, refused all requests for an interview.
As a side note, the director of the movie was a nice guy who liked to work out of his home. He had two kids, a boy and a girl, who seemed always to be around and were something of a distraction. The director's name was Steve Gyllenhaal and I understand those kids eventually went into the business. I believe they're actors now.

Update: have walked the Dogs From Hell. Rewarding self with M&S Jaffas. That reminds me of the tale about Oliver Reed who was making a film with Jerry Lewis and insisted on calling him " Jaffa " because of his fake tan much to Mr Lewis' annoyance

Rewarding self with M&S Jaffas. On that topic, important information. Breaking News. Just found it is 2 packets for £1.50 on all flavours, including Lemon and Lime. Run, don't walk. There's one 5 minutes from my house...I'm off.

Worked until 2.30am last night and was back in at 9.30, so currently a zombie at my desk. All suggestions of how to stay awake until 6pm will be gratefully received.
