Sympathies emicardiff . Reminds me of being on a tube train, hurtling towards Wembley park, full of blokes in stripy coloured nylon, breathing out beery fumes whilst chanting and JUMPING UP AND DOWN, making an imminent derailment likely. (In such instances Mr Tibidabo is forbidden from speaking, lest any of them catch his north-eastern twang and decide to do that thing in his pocket they all (so I'm reliably informed) do up there at football matches ) ETA:- That's the blokes jumping up and down, not me. I don't do jumping. ETA(2) Please don't ban me for being northernist. I am not. I am footballist. haha reminds me of the time my ex, trying to get to my London flat ended up going too far, squashed against the doors by whatever team was doing the kicking about that day. Somehow it was my fault...even though I could read the tube map perfectly well I stayed in far away from the rugby crowds last night, though obviously the Welsh lot were quietly drowning their sorrows...scratch that they can't do anything quietly! Today I have been 'treated' to a couple starting Valentines early with a full on snog-and-grope session at the gym. Later I'm taking the Mother out for lunch as her Birthday is tomorrow.

Ok. I'm just going to ask it. Maybe I've led a sheltered existence. What is a bonfire society?

Ok. I'm just going to ask it. Maybe I've led a sheltered existence. What is a bonfire society? A Sussex and Kentish tradition. Many towns and villages in the area have bonfire societies that hold celebrations between early September and late November. Lewes itself has 7 societies in total 6 of which celebrate on the 5th November when anywhere between 20000 and 70000 spectators fill the narrow streets to watch the numerous torchlight processions and firework displays the night ending with bonfire prayers in each societies area of the town. Its to mark Guy Fawkes attempt to blow up parliament but also to commemorate the 17 protestant martyrs and each society also builds and blows up a topical tableau each year. Last year Trump and a Wall were particularly popular targets

Well, Marwood, I do always go to films in the hope and expectation of enjoying them; it's just that in some recent cases, I thought both that the films themselves were hugely over-rated and that perhaps they just weren't for me. In the case of Moonlight in particular, I hadn't fancied it at all but changed my mind after reading several articles which made it sound far more compelling than it actually was. However, swings and roundabouts: as above, Denial was lower down my list but proved to be just the engaging experience I hoped - and it's still resonating with me. As for cartoons, films with CGI, etc, you may be joking, but I am tempted to echo BurlyBear there and say "over my dead body" - not that anyone would, but I literally (correct use of word for once!) wouldn't see those if you paid me. However, as with theatre, each to her/his own, eh? Well I wouldn't normally go and see anything CGI/animated at the cinema (never seen a Pixar film on a big screen, have no interest in any of the Ice Age/Madagascar/Shrek films and would cut my fingers off rather than watch something like Sing), but seeing the trailer for Lego Batman before seeing T2 Trainspotting (which I also loved) piqued my interest, and having also seen Silence and Manchester by the Sea this year, wanted to see something that would (hopefully) put me in a good mood when I came out of the cinema. All three of the films you say you went to see, I have no interest in seeing, they just seem too earnest and worthy for me to want to invest a couple of hours of my life into (I met David Irving on a number of occasions at my last job before the case that is the crux of Denial came to court, and thought he was an arsehole then, I don't need to see Timothy Spall play him to underline the fact)

I went to see a film in a neighbouring town this morning. Not much traffic on the roads but what there was was moving slowly because of a white rented van that was doing 15mph below the speed limit all the way. Made it to the cinema just in time. Did some shopping afterwards, set off home, traffic moving slowly, white van far ahead at the front of the queue. Logo looks familiar. Nah, couldn't be. Finally get a chance to pass it.
Oh, come on! It's the same bloody van! This route carries an average of 20,000 vehicles a day and I end up behind the same one both ways‽

My day took an unexpected turn when I got a text message saying 'I've just seen your face on Songs of Praise'...better that than Crimewatch I guess! (choir were, well a choir in a recording a while back and it seems we popped up!)

Moana; not for the first time. It was surprisingly busy for early on a Sunday morning. The downside to it all was that I had to sit through a trailer for a Peppa Pig movie. Words cannot express how much I loathe Peppa Pig. It feels like the design objective for the whole thing was "make it look as cheap as possible". I pity any parents who have to sit through it with their children.

Two drinks afterwork last night turned into far too many drinks, so I've been (deservedly) suffering a little today. Work loomed scarily large, but when I arrived i was greete dwith the news that tonights concert has been cancelled, and therfore my shift truncated somewhat. Great news for me, though I do of course feel sorry for the disappointed patrons. Watched the Lego Batman movie slast weekend, wa quite dispointed by it, entertaining but not a patch on The Lego Movie which I loved. 'I've just seen your face on Songs of Praise'...better that than Crimewatch I guess! Are we to assume then Emi you have been on Crimewatch previously? haha

Watch out, emicardiff: next you'll be featuring in the thread about famous people seen at the theatre!
Or are you notorious rather than famous? A fine line sometimes - and a slippery slope, too...

Today I hit the snooze button 7 times... and was late for work. I realised I'd forgotten my phone half way up the street, went back for it, and as a result missed my train literally by a minute (I saw it pulling away from the platform). So, also late for work. Gah. Will have to stay late now.

I was late to work today too, but I'd prearranged it with my line manager so enjoyed a cheeky extra hour in bed rather than having a mad rush-around. Yes, I'm EXTREMELY obnoxiously smug about it, I hadn't realised how badly I needed even just a tiny lie-in. Hope you all do better for the rest of the week! (And I'm back in at my normal horribly early time tomorrow so I don't get to be smug for long.)

A couple of weeks ago I bought a cinema banner for Moana on eBay. A banner-sized package arrived this afternoon. Turned out to contain several banners for Sing, several quads and one-sheets for Sing, and for some reason one quad for Ballerina.
I am displeased, mainly because I had to roll up five banners and an uncounted number of posters and fit them back into their box, including moving furniture around to create space to do it. Isn't it strange how once something is unrolled it never seems to want to roll up into the diameter it had before?

Also working from home and have been mired in spreadsheet hell since dawn (or so it seems). Emerging for air*, fresh or otherwise. And wine, in a bit.
*And ice cream. Because, ice cream.

They were giving away cupcakes for Valentines Day at my local station. Unfortunately, by the time I got there, they had all gone. Just about set the tone for my day.
