I just had my first-ever salsa class. I am hilariously bad. Not sure if I'll go back next week or not. My daughter did this...she had a chuckle afterwards and said it was a lesson in always leaving potential as potential....until she tried it she could persuade herself that the fact she could do one "forward back" step with a wiggle of the hips meant she would be good at it! Her potential was all ruined when she actually went to a class!

A good day at the Theatre seeing Harry Potter. Then I forgot the Tubes to my neck of the woods are up the creek Monday-Wednesday so nearly did the wrong thing a few times to get home!

I have a washing machine repair man coming this morning - it's developed a small leak. Unfortunately I have the tiniest kitchen ever - I can't fit the fridge in it, and there's just enough room to stand between the sink and the washing machine on opposite walls. So last night my dad popped round and we dismantled the kitchen cabinet next to the washing machine (which fortunately wasn't the only thing holding the worktop up - though I'm not putting any weight on it until we get it properly supported) to create some access space to the back of it. I now have bits of kitchen cabinet and all my pots and pans in the spare bedroom.
Sod's law it'll turn out to be the door seal that's the problem.
Edit: it was the inlet hose - at the back - so the decision to demolish the kitchen cabinet was correct.

Planted a little tree. Ok, I personally didn't dig the hole but I do feel weight of responsibility.

Sorry to read that Geoffrey Bayldon, aka Catweazle and the Crowman in Worzel Gummidge (amongst many other roles) has passed away aged 93: R.I.P.
I am also somewhat saddened to see that it's 21 years since Jon Pertwee passed away, at the rate time seems to be flying by, I'll soon be of the right age to play Catweazle myself...

I've been dealing with a nasty headache for 36 hours straight at this point. Being of the female persuasion sucks so much sometimes. I am now breakfasting on Nurofen Plus and coffee in the hope that my head will sort itself out as I'm going to Brussels today to ogle some dashing Frenchmen on stage. Then off to Norway tomorrow evening to spend a week trapped on a boat with 2000 Germans. Lord give me patience. I hear you. And for what it's worth, you're not on your own x

Had a nasty twitter bully incident to round off my day. My twitter brings out the worst in people, and my academics can be the lowest of the low in that respect sometimes. First time a social media incident has left me genuinely scared and upset though. (I'm fine now)

This stroll down the South Bank from the National and past where the Globe isn't yet with Bob Hoskins and Barry Norman is well worth 7 minutes of your time

Lovely day. Celebrated not-being-35-yet by taking the day off the diet, going to lunch with a bunch of old friends and catching up on gossip, then having a little wander around the National Gallery (introducing a particular friend who hadn't been before to the joys of 'that's a pretty dress'-level art appreciation 😉), then heading to a vegan/free-from ice cream parlour in Soho.

I drove into a one way street today and there was no opportunity to turn back for miles. Ended up on the motorway and had no idea where I was going.

then having a little wander around the National Gallery (introducing a particular friend who hadn't been before to the joys of 'that's a pretty dress'-level art appreciation 😉) That's about the level of my art appreciation! I spent part of my time between shows trying to buy a congratulations card for my oldest friend whose first baby is due imminently. Is one not supposed to be organised & do this in advance? I ask because almost every baby card in Peter Jones was gender-specific, which makes it very difficult when the baby has yet to be born & the parents didn't want to know in advance. I ended up with a card with penguins on because it was 1 of only 2 non-gender-specific options. Also, cards congratulating new grandparents? Really?

Eurovision had competition for the weirdest 'entertainment' last night. Now my choir get invited to some random things to perform. Last night we were asked by a charity to sing at their event, so far so usual. They rented out a space that usually belongs to one of those hip-new-age Churches (so basically a warehouse with a stage and lighting rig) it's huge. The concert starts at 6.30. By 6.25 there are 5 people there who aren't performers/organisers. By 7ish there's probably 20.
The first act is a violin player and pianist. Who sing some dreary folk songs. Who are then accompanied by 'Interprative dance'. After which we're told 'we just decided to put that in today' yeah it showed....
The 'headline act' I can only describe as 'Think's she's Cardiff's answer to Bollywood Beyonce'. After the first song she stopped and said 'I didn't see a flash going off, I was expecting photographs' the poor event photographer then had to make a big show of taking her picture. The set list ranged from classical Indian music to Boney M to Bollywood musicals to Adele (I wish I was making this up) and the dreaded audience participation played in when she insisted everyone a) learn a Bollywood routine b) dance to all her numbers. In the end it was less embarassing to dance.
After that Eurovision frankly looked a bit tame...

I miraculously survived my week on a boat full of Germans. Norway is wet, windy and cold in May. I think I need a week at some Mediterranean beach now to recover from all this.

I woke up at 6.19 this morning & shot out of bed, thinking I'd failed to set my alarm & had overslept. I was just about to dash into the bathroom when I suddenly twigged that it's Sunday! Went back to bed for another 4 hours.

Sometimes I like Amazon: Monday afternoon: Buy something. Delivery options: next day for £7 or so, standard delivery (Wednesday) £4. Pay £4. Tuesday morning: Receive email saying that my item has been despatched and will be delivered today.
Sometimes I don't like Amazon: £4 delivery for something that could be sent first class by Royal Mail for 98p?

I hope you enjoyed the show last night, sorry for not being all that great at being sociable, I've always been the quiet reserved one who only manages to be witty online because they've more time to think of it Are you seeing all of the remaining Showstopper shows?

Yes thanks, hope you did too. I have yet to see a Showstopper where I haven't enjoyed at least most of it. I loved Ruth & Adam's characters' relationship last night. Don't worry, I'm not very good at talking to people either, at least not till I get to know them well. Yes, I have the last 2 remaining London shows booked (fingers crossed more get scheduled for the autumn) plus all 5 in Cambridge!

5 hours with the auditor. Survived. But now so paranoid I upgraded all my computers with an extra anti-crypto program. There is a link, but I'm too tired to make it. Even a 1-person business has to get audited? Yikes! The department I'm currently temping in had an audit on Monday but one of the benefits of being a temp is you don't get involved with that sort of thing.

I've had a day where I can't stop listening to Bellowhead's London Town, as it is joyous a/f. And my neighbour had a brick thrown through their window at 5:30am, which was not.

If your parcel was more than 1" thick, and needed to be insured and tracked, it would cost £4 through Royal Mail. It wasn't. It was a twin-pack of 3.5mm audio adaptors. Total weight 11g. I routinely send larger and heavier things for the 98p large letter charge. I know there's certainly some logistical reason why Amazon chooses any particular carrier for a delivery, but it still grates that I have to spend that much to suit Amazon's convenience.

Great day catching up on culture (well, in my rather lowbrow terms) after spending last week in Yorkshire. It was a lovely holiday but I really craved a visit to the cinema or theatre, just to tide me over until I could get back home. Frustrating, too, to be near some theatres which usually have a varied programme but were dark. So today I caught Mindhorn at last, which was just the right light-hearted fare for a wet day and really resonated with me as the subject was someone past his best looking back on his glory days. Then the matinee of Stepping Out - more tremendous fun - and lastly another film, Miss Sloane, which was one of the best I've seen so far this year.

American Theatreboard members may need to look away now... Elder Mini Tibs needed a visa for a summer course in NYC. Was told that she needed to be interviewed and the only place offering a slot in time (a month away) was Belfast. Was also told to hang around for a couple of days in case there were problems, so she booked her return flight for Saturday. She was nervous. Seemed a lot of fuss for a music student. She's just come out of the interview. Here's the text she's sent me: So I'd already given some of my documents and done fingerprints. This was the "interview" bit: "So you're doing a summer school then." "Yes." "Are you looking forward to it?" "Yes, lots." "Great, here's your documents back, enjoy New York."
She's now got 2 more nights in a Belfast Premier Inn with nothing to do apart from playing hopscotch on giant stepping stones........
