I guess I'll be accessing Twitter via the website then, like I do on my laptop, and ignoring the annoying "Twitter is better on the app" messages. I am not going to be forced into getting rid of an otherwise perfectly fine phone!

so companies stop supporting because the cost to support these older models isn't worth it/ To me, 5 years is a reasonable support period for updates. But Dawnstar isn't looking for support or an update... they are looking for the app to work the way it used to or the ability to download the version of the app that does work on their phone.

I’ve made a day trip to Jersey. Very nice, but made solely because it means I can keep BA status (free seat selection, extra Avios, lounge access etc - so a good financial decision). Plus, they have a good beer selection in the executive lounge.
Waiting to board the plane, alongside various people in the priority queues. It is delayed. Just heard they can’t open the door to offload the luggage from the previous flight.
There’s a nice male-female couple with three young boys, with conversations like “some children have to go to schools which have girls” and (from child who looks about 8), “I won’t have sugar for breakfast in Dubai, I’ll have sashimi”.
Also, a nice male-male couple with two young boys, who were also in the lounge, who told one of them when they were getting too excited to whatever they were listening to through their headphones.
All the children are well behaved, so no issues there. But they are still not boarding and I could have stayed in the lounge for another 30 minutes.
Still, this is when I pretend to be sophisticated for a very short period of time for future benefits. It really isn’t reflected in my salary!

Just in case anyone is interested, we did get on the plane, at which point they announced they couldn't close the luggage door.
I was busy on my phone researching what I was entitled to if I didn't get home that day (bearing in mind, I hadn't planned for an overnight stay), but eventually we left around two hours late. So, I'm home, no harm done, but many of the other passengers will have missed their last connection (not sure what will have happened with the crew, who had one further trip tonight on the same plane) - doors permitting.
For people reading this who need BA tier points, I recommend Jersey, but they don't seem to have much of the way in theatres. The service on the Heathrow to Jersey route is about ten times better than on the London City Airport to Jersey route. In Jersey airport, note that once you go through the Duty Free store, you're stuck in the limited gate area and can't go back.
Now my flights are done for the time being, my next fun task is to renew my passport.

Do you know, Dr Tom, I'm a little bit jealous. I love Jersey. It's like going abroad... but without most of the hassle. Work on refurbishing the Opera House seems to be about 18 months behind schedule, with the rebuilding of Fort Regent, including a flexible entertainment venue, far in the future. Yes, the airport is 'unusual'. Most airports can't wait to get you out of the check-in area and through security. At Jersey, there's nowhere to go!

My day is crap. Missing 2 shows: Dr Semmelweis and Ground Hog Day. Thank you rail idiots for working to rule and being unable to run many trains.

Dr Tom that’s good to know about your Avios and Tier points. I’m a Silver member and needed some extra Tier points by Nov to keep that level. I have 2 trips away booked by then but still leaves me short. So I booked a quick trip to Malta as it gave me the 80 tier points I needed. I never thought of Jersey.

It’s Friday, it’s pay day and as of 5pm I’m on leave for the week. That means its time for another London theatre binge week next week. Can’t wait!

Lucky you. I have a few books about disused underground stations. Been interested in this since seeing "Thunderbirds" as a child & Lady Penelope was abducted to a disused station. My dad told me the station had existed.

A really fascinating insight both for the technology / engineering bits but also the history of the sites with the stories that go with them.

Having a look back of my London week as I make my way back home today and back in work on Monday (boo! ), it’s been a great week of theatre with lots packed in and lots of memories (and theatre programmes) to take back with me. There have been some real highs (the Sondheim concert and Sunset) over the holiday and the opportunity to see a lot of great people on stage. For me, it was finally getting to see the likes of Bernadette and Lea, people who I’d thought I’d never get the opportunity to see which have made this week special. Though seeing Bradley Jaden in that costume was certainly something that I’d thought I would never see.
It’s been a real pleasure being in the city ( the great weather has helped a lot with all the walking I’ve done). Thanks to all the theatre staff and casts at the different venues I’ve dealt with over the week. You have all been absolute stars and without the work you folk do each day, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy weeks like this. See you in November!

This is my first post so I thought I'd start on this thread...
I've been lurking for a while and reading a lot of posts on different shows over the last 6 months. The insights, recommendations and reviews have enabled me to experience and enjoy things I'd never thought of trying, so thank you everyone.
I'm hoping by joining this board I'll be able to share my passion for theatre with others and hopefully make some friends to see shows with!
This is the first week in a while where I've been commuting in and out of London for work whilst having quite a few theatre shows lined up to enjoy in the evening, which has been really enjoyable as I'm not someone who can sit at home and do nothing for long periods of time!

Just spotted this. For anybody who is interested, our very own BurlyBeaR will be making his Sheffield theatrical debut next year in a one off performance - TallPaul - I assume you will be booking a front row seat for this one?

I know we've all got to start somewhere, our david , but I'm a little disappointed that BurlyBeaR 's Sheffield theatrical debut isn't in the main auditorium of the world-famous Crucible Theatre. I'll still be accepting a complimentary ticket, though. As a very good friend, I'm bound to be offered one!

Had a lovely 4 day break with my partner in Amsterdam, saw all the tourist sights and had a wonderful time. Then we both tested positive for COVID the day we got home (both triple jabbed). Couped up in bed. Has anyone else had “new” covid yet? It’s really not pleasant. Going on a week now and if anything seems to be getting worse with more and more symptoms.

Escaped so far but pals tell me it isn’t fun. It never was. Wish you better.

Yes I got it 4 weeks ago even though also triple jabbed. Pretty sure I picked it up on a packed train to Cornwall. Got a chest infection that only cleared after taking antibiotics and also terrible fatigue which I still have 4 weeks later. Its horrible. And the crazy thing is that as I am a key worker I had to work right through the pandemic and didn't catch it.

We went out at 7pm last night (Sunday) and came back at 8pm with over £90 at original prices of fresh food including meat and fish, salads, fruit and veg, bread and sandwiches, cakes, milk and a few ready meals, for a total spend of just over £22. Some immediately frozen, most refrigerated and will largely feed us 4 adults till at least Wednesday. I occasionally hear people say there's no point buying something because the freezer is full and it goes out of date at midnight so can't be eaten after that which makes me smile inwardly as I pick up what they put down.
Getting almost all our food at final reduction time indirectly funds my theatre going. We don't shop Sunday afternoons when there are always plenty of people chasing the bargains in the bigger supermarkets, but we never see anyone else on a Sunday evening when only the smaller supermarkets and garage stores are open. Also not everything unsold is collected by charities and staff aren't usually allowed to take it so some is still just thrown away. I find it satisfying to save so much on fresh food in just an hour or so of stress free shopping on a 10 mile circular route.
Co-op stores, ASDA garage shops and Morrison Daily are generally best for evening bargains. Tonight's saving covers two of this week's show tickets.

Any employment law specialists able to help me out please? I've recently started line managing a new starter who was redeployed to our department due to a restructure in their team. They've been downgraded to a role below their previous role however their pay is protected (frozen) for 2 years.
The issue is I'm now line managing someone who's being paid more than me. To add to this they have no experience of the team's specific remit, is less qualified than me and arguably didn't meet all the essential critieria for the role.
I find this really disempowering especially after working in the team for 5 years and covering multiple gaps in the team with no acting up pay.
They're also of the opposite sex so I'm wondering if a gender pay discrimination claim is valid? The problem is the protected pay policy could be seen as a reasonable justification.
Thanks in advance for any help.

It's interesting what passes for Hallowe'en these days. 🎃
A pirate? I'm not convinced.
A man in a pig onesie? I'm even less convinced. 🐖
I rather like the excuse of the young man joining his friends in the pub earlier this evening. "Sorry I didn't dress up. I'm going to the gym later."

Thanks in advance for any help. People are put on frozen pay or marked time as the Civil Service used to call it if they move jobs/location as their pay cannot be reduced unless they somehow accepted this instead of redundancy. In some organisations pay grades can overlap so in theory a long server on a grade below could be on more than a newly appointed higher grade who could be new to the organization. I know of people managing others of the same grade and it happens where I work. But the key point would be is your grade a management grade in your organisation if it is then you wouldn't be able to challenge it. If it isn't then I'd think you'd have a case for some sort of financial incentive for taking on the management of someone.

I’ve just been to have a look around the Disney100 exhibition in ExCel centre. Overall, I thought it was an excellent exhibition and got a good 3 hours having a look around. A nice mix of exhibits from Disney’s beginnings right up to present day. It covers the films (including Star Wars and MARVEL) music, cartoons and theme parks. With plenty of original artwork, photos, musical score sheets, props and costumes from the archives on display, I’d say it was worth the trip out and there was enough for both adults and kids.
