Got to meet Stephen Morris at the Social tonight for the launch of his new book: not every night that you get to meet the drummer in the worlds best band (and unlike most drummers, he is quite fun and interesting to listen to in conversation)

I have a rather fabulous day off, thank you for asking.
Started off with securing tickets to a special event I was worried about, then had a decent and life affirming swim at the sun-kissed lido.
Later I hopped on a bus to see Death of a Salesman at the Yong Vic, wept ever so slightly and gave my first standing ovation of the year. All for a tenner. Fwiw, Chiwetel Ejiofor made his second visit and no one seemed to notice.
Finished by rather luckily bagging a £15 ticket to Anna at the National tomorrow. Back to the grind on Friday .. night!

So guess who's not getting any? I'm sure you're all dying to know what I got in the end? Well. Luckily he didn't go the perfume route. I say luckily... What I did get were macarons with a sell by date in late 2020 - so made of plastic presumably - and some of that stuff in a jar made out of ducks' bladders or somethingorother. Actually, it might be safer if I do rub that on my wrist...

Mr Tibs clearly loves you very much, Tibidabo. Have you seen how much they charge in Fortnum's? Just don't tell Peter Egan the next time you see him in London's glittering West End! I once bought my parents an all-inclusive trip to the Edinburgh Tattoo. In return, they bought me a bag of whisky flavoured fudge. I despise flavoured fudge! In other dad news, I went to a lunchtime talk earlier...at lunchtime. The speaker's dad arrived 10 minutes late, then made a right show of her with his questions.

Have you finally left the grim north TallPaul? Lunch?😉 I tried to leave on Tuesday, but thanks to overhead line problems, I only got as far as Retford. Thank goodness I wasn't travelling on the 20:00 service to Sunderland. It terminated at Newcastle. The indignity! 🙂 Truth is, after luncheon on Sunday I'm doing a spot of public speaking, so in preparation, I shall talking like wot the upper middle classes do for the next four days.

I think I may stay out of the bath and in bed if you can pull muscles getting out of one. Thanks for the warnings, Dawnstar and daisy24601 . Hope you both get better soon. Also, BurlyBeaR behaviour is explained... Yes, but the rest of us don't have the option of sleeping in trees or being groomed by our relations! What behaviour by BurlyBeaR does it explain? My back is definitely not as bad today as yesterday, thank goodness. I was supposed to see a matinee of the Les Mis tour in MK but decided I couldn't face the trek. I am however currently en route to London for the RB's Romeo & Juliet (4/5). As I'm going down straight from work, my mother "kindly" deposited me at the local polling station at about 7.40am, where I spoilt my ballot as I don't want to vote for any of them.

I usually post on the "This week I Am Going To " thread but forgot this week. Maybe if I had this would not have happened...
On Wednesday I had two shows booked, Sweet Charity matinee at the Donmar and Amelie opening night at Wimbledon. Yesterday (thursday) it was West Side Story matinee at the Royal Exchange in Manchester. That was box office ticket collection.
Somehow I got my days mixed up, my first major senior moment I'll claim. Grabbed my advance train ticket, bag of food and drink, book etc on Wednesday morning and set off for Manchester instead of London 24 hours early. Ticket was rejected at the barrier at local station, the security chap looked at it and opened the gate. Checked on train to London, again returned with no comment. Rejected again at the ticket barrier in London, scanned and returned / let through. Ticket worked the barriers on the underground between the two London stations so I remained unaware. Fourth check just after leaving Euston, actually marked by the ticket inspector that time but still nobody including me had noticed I was travelling on a 22 May using a 23 May ticket. At Manchester again it was rejected but I was let through with no issues and still have the ticket.
It was only when I arrived at theatre that all became clear. Fortunately I was able to exchange the ticket for the evening performance. I travelled back on an overnight National Express coach to London and early morning train to Kent costing a total of £50. Missed the two Wednesday shows so another £60 + down the drain there.
Could have been worse as if I had been picked up at Manchester they could have charged me the full £101 single fare for the journey there but it does make you wonder to what extent railway staff looking at tickets actually do look at them. I could have returned to London with no real harm done right up to when the train to Manchester stopped at Milton Keynes by when 4 opportunities to "catch" me had been missed.
Sure feel dumb though !!

Stuff I learned over the weekend: 1) British female boxers remain the best on the planet. 49 seconds to put the opponent down. Go!!!! 2) Giant Cadbury Bourneville Chocolate Buttons are the best new chocolate invention this year. There are new chocolate buttons?!

Giant buttons available for years, sold at NT for about ten times the actual price...are these dark choc? I’m thinking the Bourneville is a hint. It always used to denote dark. Or what passed for dark in the 60s

Have you tried that new Cadbury's chocolate, @theatremonkey, that is neither milk nor dark, but somewhere inbetween?
It's that sophisticated, it's advertised by Jason Donovan, amongst others!

I will have to contemplate giant dark chocolate buttons, I dragged myself away from some milk ones today, my problem is they may sell them as resealable but mine never quite seems to work so I am forced to eat the whole lot in one go.

Missed an Amazon delivery yesterday because I was at work. Holding off any activities until it arrives today "sometime before 9pm". Delivery driver "9 stops away" at 11am with a online map and locator showing me their distance, two roads down. Can't be too long I think. Locator jumps up the road and slightly further away with "6 stops to go". At 12pm the locator lands at the end of my road, 50 meters away with "4 stops to go". Oo. I'l be able to go out this afternoon and get the food I need, go to the gym etc, I foolishly think. 12:30. Refresh, no progress. 1pm Refresh, no progress. 1:30 Refresh, no progress. 2pm Refresh, driver is now "3 stops away" half way across the city a good 40minute drive in steady traffic. Rage. Just that little bit far enough but too close to confidently leave the house for any length of time to get anything done.

^Same problem, @pegs, very annoying. I've seen the adverts for that new bar, but not in the local shops yet. Annoyingly, my friend sold his newsagents*, so can't ask him to cadge me a sample either. *New owner turned out to be a grumpy old git. Entire estate boycotts him now. Prat. Seen it in my tesco but haven't tried it.

I don't know why Amazon doesn't do the same sort of thing. It's not as if they're too small a company to be able to offer a more precise delivery time. Even something like a three-slot 08:00 - 12:00 / 12:00 - 17:00 / 17:00 - 22:00 would be better than the current "may turn up some time during the day, or possibly the next day".

Do you have somewhere amazon could leave a parcel? I think you can just put it on your account. I have a porch - I know, dead posh - and they just put whatever in there.

Yodel have it sussed. They post through open windows. I once got home to discover Waggy Tibs sharing her bed with half a long, thin box...😱🐶🎁

Did consider this but the closest to a "safe place" would be under my car outside, but even that is risking it in the outer burbs of Manchester haha Yodel have it sussed. Where if the windows are closed, somewhere vaguely on the property will do. My last encounter with Yodel was the delivery of an iPhone to my parents house, launched over the fence somewhere into the garden. Wasn't best pleased.

My neighbour is drilling holes in the wall again. It seems to be his new hobby. The grinding noises remind me of being at the dentist, except she rarely uses a hammer drill.

Finally got around to telling the woman that I work with that I am getting fed up with the banile conversations she has with friends which can literally go on for an hour. Today's conversation was about knitting patterns, what you can buy in Lidl and a verbatim retelling of a conversation with Sky about renewing her contract. Now I love a natter but dont spend hours at it every week and then moan to me that you are stressed because of your workload! Needless to say she spent the rest of the day snapping at me. Thank god I've now got a few days off. But it had to be said.

Thank god I've now got a few days off. But it had to be said. It's difficult, isn't it, and however tactful you are, the outcome can be as bad as the behaviour you hope to change. Where I volunteer, many of my colleagues talk endlessly about diets, the "values" (or points or whatever) of some diet plan they're following; what they've eaten or intend to eat; whether they're "allowed" to have something and so on. None of the people concerned has lost any weight (I'm not saying it's easy) and I wish I had the nerve to suggest that if they spent less time thinking and talking about food, got on with the rest of their life and had plenty of exercise (so far as I am aware, none of them does any form of activity, not even walking short distances instead of driving/getting the bus), they'd probably lose weight gradually, look and feel better and find that over time, food was no longer their focus.

Well, personally, I'd prefer my colleagues to talk about anything, yes, even knitting patterns and diets, if it meant they took their bloody faces out of their phones during our very, very short breaks.
