Evans may well programme this but it has to be in the Minerva. Its his first season and he will want some big guns in the main house to bring the regulars in. Camelot or Little Night Music anyone? There's already a thread elsewhere for idle, uninformed speculation on the CFT programme. theatreboard.co.uk/thread/1852/chichester-2017?page=4

Wonderful news. I wonder who will play the Anna Francolini role?

I know it is probably too early to say, but do you think that they are thinking of bringing this to the West End? I'm really interested in this. It seems like the sort of show I go for, and looks good from what I have seen on the SHOWBUSINESS: THE ROAD TO BROADWAY film. However, I think Chichester is a bit of a trek. It would take quite a while to travel there.

Um it's hard to say, the original production was well received by the critics and managed to win the Olivier Award for best New musical, but the audience's reaction wasn't particularly enthusiastic and never transferred to the west end... If it gets extraordinary reviews there might be a chance, otherwise I don't think so.

Great piece but it too good for the west end. Wendy's End is full of jukebox pieces. Fringe and public funded spaces is where the best musicals are found

However, I think Chichester is a bit of a trek. It would take quite a while to travel there. The journey by hot-air balloon is delightful.

Isn't Sharon D Clarke in everything at the moment?? At this rate she'll be taking over from Amber Riley in 'Dreamgirls' soon!

It would take quite a while to travel there. Everything at Chichester is put on to have a longer life, ultimately in the West End, but sometimes elsewhere. But also some of the productions die at Chichester. If I knew what was going to transfer, he'll I could save a lot of travelling.

Looks like the entire run is sold out, even before public bookings open.
So why put this in the small theatre and not the festival?

There are a few dates listed as "Limited" rather than "Sold out", but even so that's impressive! Maybe Michael Longhurst specifically wanted the smaller space, or maybe Richard Wilson demanded to be directed in the large space or something. I do hope they're just sold out of priority allocation though, rather than sold out of everything. Be pretty disappointing if I don't even get a sniff of tickets. Though I suppose if they were completely gone that would bode fairly well for a possible transfer...

Perhaps they are surprised themselves at how popular this has been; I'm quite surprised that a Chichester audience has been drawn to this. Good on Daniel Evans for giving it a whirl though...

Just had this by email: "Our Friends priority booking period has been extremely popular this year and whilst we would like to reassure you there is still good availability for the Festival Theatre productions, we now have limited availability for certain productions in our smaller Minerva Theatre. Many performances of Caroline, Or Change and King Lear are now sold out so we do advise you to approach booking with flexibility in dates and seating areas." So it would seem that they don't hold back tickets for every performance, if at all.

This will go OT rather quickly, but it's an interesting one, isn't it. Does the theatre worry more about making sure that those who paid for membership get what they want, or about pulling in potential new audiences. They did push membership fairly consistently before booking opened, as most places do, and maybe they have been caught out by the take-up for Caroline, or Change.( I can't imagine they're surprised that Lear with Ian McKellen is selling out in the small space, but, as I say OT.)

Is this really an especially interesting one? Demand has substantially exceeded supply and the same number of people would be disappointed however the tickets were sold. If mrslovettsmeatpie had been allowed to purchase a ticket, this would have been at the expense of one of Chichester's dear friends. Peace and love!

In the past certain productions have appeared sold out but then extra tickets are released. Also, there is always the possibility of returns. I've managed to get a ticket to sold out productions in the past just by persevering and constantly logging onto the website.
Optimist that I am I shall be attempting to go online tomorrow in the hope there will be some tickets left for what I want to see.

What a waste of time this board is. So tickets have sold well? Good I too am surprised but good luck to those who go. I still remember Clive Rowe as a bus.
