It's nice that Norris isn't scared of musicals at the NT. They can do big, interesting things that the commercial sector won't touch. I have big hopes for this.

this actually excites me more than any other show announced so far for this year. with the creative team involved plus the classic disney songs it could be something special

I wonder how dark they'll make the stage musical, the original book is quite dark and the film while not as dark does have its moments

Having seen what can be achieved with horses as puppets, the whale sequence really does have the potential to be quite spectacular. It would also be quite an interesting spin to have the world of Pinocchio full of puppets, where the only person who thinks he's a puppet and yearns to be a real boy, is actually a real boy the whole time.

I think you'd need a few human characters like Gepetto, Coachman, Lampwick and maybe the Blue Fairy everything else could be puppets or costumes While Monstro could be amazing, I'd be interested to see how they do the donkey transfomation, that could visually amazing if utterly terrifying if done well Baz mentioned that they're not only using songs from the film but also other songs from the Disney back catalogue as well so I'm interested what songs they're also choosing for the production

Think this is one of the few shows where a wooden performance will benefit

I guess Jiminy Cricket might be female but having the Blue Fairy as male would be interesting considering she's usually depicted as female.

Possibly and also triple casting would be too much cost wise. Cursed Child has young adults playing teenagers so perhaps they're slightly aging up Pinocchio

What, releasing a cast recording approx. 12 months after the show has finished? Missing a prime marketing opportunity?

The one and only ALAN CUMMING is going to be playing the other leading role: the Fox, or "Honest" John Worthington Foulfellow.
I imagine he'll be brilliant.

The wonderful Audrey Brisson, currently being bloody brilliant as Gelsomina in La Strada, is playing Jiminy Cricket
And recent Thénardier, David Langham, is playing the Fox

Terrific casting! Audrey is brilliant in La Strada and David was also brilliant in the first Spamalot tour as Prince Herbert etc.
Looking forward to this now! Does anyone know when booking opens?

The National have released the show page and info now (along with other shows in the next season i.e. Network) www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/shows/pinocchioIncludes the full cast list (no character names though yet), prices (Travelex show which is kinda good) and onsale date as 7th July at 8.30am. Although as great as it sounds, the only thing I've noticed is that theres no mention from the NT of it being an actual "musical", so I'm curious will it be another of these "plays with songs"? I did worry there may not have been enough Disney songs.

I hate their website. It's so cluttered, forces you to scroll down at all times and I always get confused by its (lack) of information. How long is the run?
