"Dannii Minogues name up in lights in the west end"... When has this happened ever? How does she still get work? I actually wiki'd this to see what she'd been in!! Still none the wiser.... I did the same! She was in Notre Dame de Paris apparently at the Dominion?! Quite enjoyed it, liked the concept of the Stars and really enjoyed Amber Riley!!

This is annoying me now. They're spinning it as just a search for a boyband. They're really looking for actors who sing and can perform on a theatre stage. Most of the key criteria is being lost here. Do you think when they get to "Band School" (in one of Gary's mansions) they might actually mention 8-shows a week?..... I hope so. Although Dannii's expert special guest will probably be Sarah Harding

Well they saved the best til last! A whole different level to everyone else! But will he look too old if they cast the rest from 19 year olds? Great voice, no doubt about it.

Well they saved the best til last! A whole different level to everyone else! Still not THAT good though. Pitch was all over the shop at the end. also, he may be a young looking 30 but he still looks too old for a boy band. EJECT.

"We've seen so much talent tonight. You top it". As an established theatre performer, you would hope so...

Awful. Awful, awful, awful. Makes a mockery of musicals and the thought that should go into casting them.

Awful. Awful, awful, awful. Makes a mockery of musicals and the thought that should go into casting them. I want to copy and paste this a million times! I am so disappointed I have no words. I didn't last until the end. Once Danni gave 5 stars to one who couldn't support a single note I gave up. Shame. I love Graeme, Mel and Martin. What absolute tosh.

Awful. Awful, awful, awful. Makes a mockery of musicals and the thought that should go into casting them. If you were to ever see or film an open call for a musical, some of the people would be a lot worse than what we saw tonight. I suspect that alot of the people who go through will have a performing background, but it will be played down.

But for an open call for a film or musical, they would at least be asked to either act a scene or perform a showtune which requires acting through song. You can't judge someone's acting skills by asking them to sing a pop song and nothing else.

Tbfl you really think this was the first audition? They will have gone through a few rounds to even get to that point.

Tbfl you really think this was the first audition? They will have gone through a few rounds to even get to that point. And several of them will have been invited to audition. They probably have a good idea of the winners before the live shows even start.

I liked the opening number - good fun. However, I wasn't keen on the Star thing - just tell them if they're through or not! I preferred the way they did the auditions in the ALW shows - one ep showing the auditions/call-backs, one showing the Maria/Joseph/Nancy/Dorothy school stage and final choosing of the ones who'd made the live shows, then into the live shows. I miss that simplicity.
The standard of the auditionees in tonight's show wasn't great. Did they really put someone who had never performed before through to the TV stages (the fireman)? Bonkers!
I was surprised that there weren't more good-looking auditionees. The lad who sang 'New York, New York' wasn't boyband material!

I like the stars... it definitely beats hearing the forced "it's a yes from me..."
Well yes, of course it's from you. We can hear you saying it.
Are they going to be auditioning their acting ability at all? It seemed to be focussed on singing and dancing ability only.

I haven't watched this, but from the comments I gather the final t and n in the title should be swapped.

I was really excited about the concept of having another musical theatre casting show, but this one doesn't seem to be musical theatre at all. Despite the fact that some of the judges mentioned going into theatres a few times, I don't get the theatre vibe. So far this just seems to be "let's find the new Take That".
However, I still hope it gets good ratings because I'm hoping for someone (possibly Gary or ALW again) to cast proper musicals through a TV show again. Wouldn't it be fab to go back to the old format of "I'd do Anything"? Casting Evita or even Finding Neverland through this medium would be fabulous. There's a few ALW gems that haven't been done yet. As I mentioned, Evita or even finding a Grizabella for a revival of Cats (in a few years' time) would be awesome.

Isn't Grizabella just on stage for all of ten minutes though?
It's the most misleading starring role of all time.
Opening scene dance (optional. Only if you fancy it) Look around a bit. Sing memory. Look around a bit more. Sing memory again.

If they did a casting show for Grizabella I'm sure tons of people would audition and lots of people would watch the show.

Just bored with these "talent" shows now. Clearly they shy away from actual musical theatre for some reason. I suspect they think there is a bigger audience with "pop" stuff - but it is a whole different discipline. The guy at the end from Thriller showed everyone up but was too old to be in a "boy" band! But clearly the talent pool is running rather dry! I will not be watching this for 8 weeks!

The guy at the end should be in it imo. He looks young enough. Not if you cast the rest of the band 18 - 22 year olds. I suspect that they will really only cast musical theatre trained pros really who they already have their eye on. Their professional training will be played down. This nonsense of "I've never sung in public before" may well be true, and why not give it a shot for a lark, but they will never get cast in a musical and manage performing 8 shows a week - or no shows a week if you are Amber Riley at the moment.
