OK now that I am sober, my thoughts on the show. I thought it was fabulous, equalled last year in most ways. The sets were fabulous, the costumes beautiful. The special effects were also fabulous, especially the opening and the end of Act One (not as spectacular as last year, but still great) and the ship in Act 2). The cast were all around fantastic. Julian can get away with murder and he owns it. He was amazing. Gary Wilmott was great too, though I wanted more from his costumes. Paul and Sam were great, with a bit from last year repeated, but still hilarious. Diversity were good, broke the show a bit in Act 1, but their Act 2 worked better. Nigel was fabulous, stealing the show with his little moments. The Cat was fine, thankless role. Really I went for Charlie and Emma. Emma didn't get much to do, but she worked a horrible dress, sang beautifully, was funny and wprked her usual charm. Loved her as always. Charlie was fab, dancing his ass off, singing like a dream and working his natural charm. He knows how to pull an audience in and I was so here for it! You could tell fans of his were in, several, including myself, went crazy when the joke was made about Hello Dolly! And he pulled off those leggings very, very well! Now. Elaine. Elaine f***ing Paige! She was everything! She was so fabulous, she was hilarious, workef that tail for Jesus, and her singing those iconic songs had the audience in awe. Especially when she sang her number from Sunset Boulevard, and hit that big note, she really earned that midsong applause. She was juzt amazing, I genuinely got emotional on her first number as I was seeing her live for the first time. She didn't dissapoint, she was terrific! Is it dirty and smutty, yes. Did I care, nope. I had so much fun, and there was barelg any kids in the Stalls at least, and I hate children anyway, so I don't care how dirty it is. Just fabulous, go!

I thought Elaine was great but I think she was miscast. She wasn't a very good baddie. Paul was a brilliant baddie last year so maybe we were just spoilt. Also enough of Paul Zerdin now. Repeating material in different venues is fine but repeating material in the same venue is not so fine. For me his scenes were boring purely because I knew what was coming as it was the same as last year.

Everytime she was on stage I was LIVING! She was just so fabulous and sassy, and surprisingly managed to sing those songs well considering her age, especially her first one, I was like yassss you do that Elaine, work it sister!

I wondered how Elaine’s “baddie” would be, she's a great singer but no actress, but I guess this isn’t Shakespeare, so acting might be desirable but not essential to the job description. I’m told that a well known actor turned down the role of King Rat because he’s not keen on Julian Clary’s act.

Norman Lamont an actor? Since when?
Well I suppose he has to be a bit careful with his drainpipe when Julian’s around...

I just do not get the hysterically funny. Its certainly not a laugh out loud panto. Though a few of you will say it was, it is not. And if you saw it last year, you saw it this year with different costumes. As in Cinderella, Dick Whittington is just an excuse. Might as well call it the Julian in more and more outrgeous costume show. Julian is Julian and been saying those very jokes for years, nothing new. Paul has his routine and he does the entire of it. It seems more like a variety show than a panto. And in my opinion (obviouly not shared by many here) it should be geared a bit more towards children. If you wnt to see Julian or Paul's act go see them at their gigs. I really hope they do not do the same casting next year. But I do know they cannot possibly cast John Barrowman he will not share the stage with anyone but the Krankes.

Bumped into Mr Clary tonight between shows around the back of the theatre. He went in through the back door tonight, as only he can.
Looking forward to ushering it on Tuesday and Thursday and seeing it!

Well I saw it last week and screamed laughing along with my entire group who went and the surrounding audience. If you did not laugh out loud at the same show I saw you must be a real barrel of laughs to have as a friend! We thought it was the funniest panto we have all ever seen (old jokes or routines included). Stick to Chekhov. That’s hilarious...

What kind of idiot are you musicalmarge? A personal attack because I did not find it funny. As I said its my opinion. If you were screaming with laughter more power to you. You love smut. But afer a while it gets boring. And this forum shares opinions, not all will be yours, but you must have no class to lash out like that. To castigate me for an opinion. Oh wait, do you know what the word means?

But afer a while it gets boring. And this forum shares opinions, not all will be yours, but you must have no class to lash out like that. To castigate me for an opinion. Oh wait, do you know what the word means? Actually I laughed mostly at the non smutty jokes - the 12 days of Christmas routine, Zerdin and his puppet (what’s a sh*tzu? A zoo with no animals in it), the musical theatre in jokes, all of Elaine’s new songs with lyric changes, the references to Half a Sixpense and Hello Dolly, the fact that they forgot their lines, the routine with the adorable children from the audience, Zerdins’s mask routine, the ridiculous large set pieces, the song about the London tube and 225 other non smutty reasons. Do I believe an actually living person sat there at the Palladium and didn’t laugh once? A stoney faced serious stern reaction to the entire show for 2 1/2 hours? No... and I/we/this board/critics/creatives have a right to evaluate and debate that. Boom

Give yourself a pat on the back. You can love or criticise a show all you like, but that is not what you have done. You picked on a person, me. You did not debate what you liked or did not like about a show. I said I did not care for it and was bored, an it was my opinion so boom back at you.

Well. It was fun, flashy, filthy and fabulous with a capital FAB-U-LOUS. I was dosed up to the gills on cheap Merlot and Christmas spirit and no matter how cheesy it was, I LOVED it! I didn't even begrudge spending a small fortune on a bag of Munchies, I was in such a good mood. The cast were terrific, Julian and Elaine naturally were the stars ( danieljohnson14 and I gave Elaine entrance applause on every single entrance) and I also loved Gary Wilmott and the man with the puppet. Pans People were very good but they have all gone a bit more butch since I remember them on Top Of The Pops and Nigel Havers was such a good sport. There's a bit where he comes on in a cage which I thought was hysterical. It could have been the Merlot but I think it was because it was funny. Elaine sent herself up marvellously but it was really all about Julian, he was simply smashing. There was some lovely snug trouser work from Charlie Stemp too. I'll bet Emma Williams had a little cry when she saw her wardrobe though, oh my. There's a scene on a ship at the beginning of Act 2 which to be quite frank, was like they'd delved into my mind and made several of my dreams a reality. It was all as camp as . . . well Christmas really.

Yes saw this yesterday at the matinee and agree that it was fantastic. The most lavish pantomime I have seen with some great effects and set pieces. Cast were great with Julian the star, though ably supported by La Paige and co. A great afternoons entertainment.

If last years timeline is same as this year then next years panto should be announced tonight by Baz It goes on sale in January, so it will likely be announced tonight or next week. Because I was initally meant to go the day It snowed but couldn't make it, I get a transfer to whatever performance next week, hopefully with an upgrade for the trouble, so I'm thrilled haha.

^The advert in the programme said "On Sale in Spring 2018." Whether they will stick to that, who knows. Oh I thought there was a screen behind the bar saying January, but either or, sometime at the start of 2018.

If they do hold off announcing it might be waiting to secure a star. Something like Mother Goose or Snow White will have less of an opportunity to have an ensemble cast of characters played by names and so would need more of a big name to sell it. Snow White for example would need a headliner as the wicked queen. Where as Jack and the beanstalk would be more like dick Whittington

They are not going to announce as early as last year then? Probably due to casting and contracts, although I would be surprised if they break with the winning formula of the last two years, by casting one huge star say to play the Wicked Queen in Snow White.

The main reason pantos tend to go on sale during the festive season is that local regulars tend to book next year's whilst they're there. Whilst the Palladium will no doubt have its repeat offenders (I am one!) I would imagine the return trade will be a lot less than the regional venues, as it's topped up with tourists and day visitors too, who may decide nearer the time. Thus not as important to get it rushed on sale this early.
