She's miscast surely as the sister in law. She should be playing the wife...

A quick thank you to the Board (and TheatreMonkey's site as well) as I was able to recommend my lovely bride see this show in her quick stay in London. She was able to take this in on Monday by purchasing a day seat. She is not tall and got a cushion - which worked perfectly. Others in Row B saw what she did and also got cushions. She thought the play was spectacular and told me the ending definitely hit hard - without telling me what the ending! We might have another trip to England in June or July, so if this extends again.....

You can request cushions?! Must remember that next time I'm sat behind a very tall person.

^Some theatres have "booster cushions," some don't - and ATG often charge for them. Or you can buy one at boosterz.co.uk. I just want to clarify that it was TheatreMonkey's site that recommended the cushions for the Gielgud's front row, which is how my bride knew to ask for one.

^ I bet he doesn’t know that Mischief Theatre occasionally hand out whoopee cushions instead!

Saw this early in the week. Being very aware of the place and issues I neither learnt or gained any further insight on that front. It was well done though. However, The family drama I found gripping and I would love it to be a book and I may seek to read the play to spend time thinking about the lairs in this family. The precise knowledge and opinion of the older teenagers of the three parent figures. I suspect they gave tacit approval to alot. It was in my opinion a very good, thought provoking play.

Tonight's Lottery numbers for a start, dammit. Well guess then you'd have no need to hunt out those cheap seats so we'd all be the losers.

I caught the matinee of The Ferryman yesterday, and I think I loved it even more than I did when I saw it at the Royal Court earlier this year. I'd been keen to see it again, preferably from the front of the stalls, but didn't want to spend big wonga. I'd had my eye on yesterday's matinee, and when I looked a few days ago, it looked as if the Delfont Mackintosh website had dynamically priced a good chunk of the available seats downwards for that date. So I managed to pick up a front row ticket for £15 (aren't they usually kept for day seats?). I'd noticed that they did that with at least one of the performances of Labour of Love, where there were front stalls seats suddenly going for £10, I think, even though it was a hit show with premium seats costing more than £100. So it's definitely worth checking the DM website on a regular basis if you've got your eye on a show. I'd like to catch The Girl from the North Country again at some point, and I'd be delighted if I could pick up a front stalls cheapie for that...

Yes, I'd love to see it again. Will check out the new cast in the new year. I know about the prices, I tend to use the Today Tix app for their rush seats.

Glad to see you enjoyed seeing this theatrewithtom - this is still the best thing I've seen at the theatre this year, would like to see it again before Paddy goes but I'm not in a rush to pay the prices they're asking, I fear they're killing the goose that laid the golden egg expecting people to pay these prices once he's gone. Caught this earlier in the week. Wasn't expecting to enjoy it much but wow, probably my favourite/the best play I've seen (granted I've not seen many but still). Great performances all round, had the understudy on for Quinn but he was great. Didn't feel like I was sat there for 3 hours at all, I was honestly surprised when the house lights came on for the interval as it felt like I hadn't been watching for long enough. May try and catch this again later in the run - never before have I repeat seen a play, feel that speaks volumes in itself

Would appreciate any reports on the new cast! I love Rosalie Craig but just can's see her in this part (especially after Sarah Greene's astounding performance which was all I could ask for after reading a play. And more)

Would appreciate any reports on the new cast! I love Rosalie Craig but just can's see her in this part (especially after Sarah Greene's astounding performance which was all I could ask for after reading a play. And more) I saw the new cast on their first night on Monday and was totally blown away (speaking as someone who was watching for the first time and have no preconceptions of the previous cast!) Rosalie Craig was fantastic as Caitlin Carney - her accent was slightly wobbly at times but I am sure she will settle into it and I only really noticed it very occasionally; on the whole it was fine. It was a really different role for her (I really like Rosalie so have seen her in most things) and I enjoyed seeing her play an 'older' character for the first time. She had great chemistry with Owen McDonnell as Quinn. He really was brilliant; I found him so engaging and believable in the role. Another standout for me was Stella McCusker as Aunt Maggie Far Away; her monologue to the Carney girls was delivered perfectly, I felt. Listening to one person talk for that long could have been boring, but I really was reminded of my own grandmother, listening enthralled to one of her old stories. The kids were fantastic, I was so impressed! Really though, I found the whole cast great and barely even noticed the running time as I was just so engrossed; I had purposefully not looked up much about the play other than the general summary so had no idea what was coming and was honestly absolutely blown away. I think it is probably one of the best things I have ever seen on stage.

I finally saw this! Overall I really enjoyed it. Probably more so than Jerusalem because it was less exposition heavy and brilliantly had full parts for such a large cast. I'd agree with earlier posters that the ending is rushed and spoils it a little bit. I saw Rosalie Craig on the Company poster on the way in and then for the whole of act 1 I was thinking 'that looks like Rosalie Craig, she's not irish is she?' so was pleasantly surprised to discover it is indeed her and she's smashing in the role, totally believable to me as a seductive sprite living in the Carney house.

Glad you enjoyed it too I don't know, having seen Laura Donnelly's performance, I find the description "seductive sprite" to be rather reductive. It makes me worry Rosalie Craig has yet to find the depths in the role and is playing her as a character in the drama rather than a fully-fledged person.

I certainly didn’t think she was purely just sitting in the character at all; there were definitely layers and complications to the character. I think what I find with the ‘seductive sprite’ comment is that, to me, Caitlin and Quinn were the ‘colour’ in the piece - I don’t quite know if that makes sense but I guess I just see it as their passion for one another really brought out the fire in their characters and the story as a whole? The parts where she dances and really lets herself go...that’s the parts I mean. I don’t think this makes much sense other than in my head so do forgive me! But by no means did I feel she just was ‘acting’ as a character; I definitely wasn’t just watching ‘Rosalie Craig play a widowed Irish woman that Jez Butterworth wrote and she learned’ - I was watching Caitlin Carney.

'seductive sprite'? Oh my god. Something has gone terribly wrong if that is a description of Caitlin now...

Haha sorry guys didn’t mean to be so reductive with my comment. I was merely trying to quickly describe her energy particularly at the start of the play, she has a nymph like fire within her but it’s fuelled by a desperate sadness and melancholy longing. Have no fear Rosalie does a great job with the character

Last performance in London is 19th May. It’s had a fantastic run, I wonder if there is something planned before Company opens at the end of September or if it’ll be closed for refurbishment?

I know I'm droning on about this production a bit, but I could see the RSC bringing Imperium into the Gielgud for a season before Company opens.
