I do hope someone tries to take a photograph the night I'm there. I'd be prepared to pay extra! Yes it would be worth it to see the eejit turned to stone!

Sondheim really needs a small theatre for it to work. So much can get lost in a big space. But heck I'll still be there, I want an early preview and then a few months into the run Agree! I remember loving this at the southwark playhouse, then a few moths after I was very impressed with the Sheffield production, set in the 70's like the original and with a second to none cast, but in a bigger space, and it's not like the Crucible is massive, it didn't feel quite the same I loved that production too. I was inches away from Siobhan McCarthy which made my evening! (I love your avatar by the way... I remember seeing Les Mis in Madrid years and years ago. The first non-blonde Fantine, I think!)

The 1993 production in Madrid was the first professional production of a musical that I ever got to see, hence why And you're right Fantine's hair wasn't blonde

That photograph is bringing back some wonderful memories...
I used to be a Les Mis nut and I travelled everywhere to see it. There was someone I was in contact with at Cam Mack's London offices back then who said he'd be working on the Madrid production, and he asked if I wanted a backstage tour when I saw the show. Yes, I did!
We were still walking around on the set a couple of minutes before it started (very late in Spain... 8.30, I recall) and I was wondering if I could get away with being in the chain-gang before taking my seat!
(I didn't. I saw the entire show and loved it. It sounded beautiful in Spanish.)

Finally listened to this. I do find Sondheim hard work unfortunately and this is no exception (though having said that I enjoyed Follies CD much more having actually seen it so hoping this will be the same).
Being Alive however is EPIC.
But am I right in thinking that Dame Patti will not be singing this number? I know this isn't the attitude but that is a TRAGEDY as she would sing the hell out of it. And surely would be one of the main reasons for going.
Which songs would her character sing out of interest? Do hope it's not gonna be like Drowsy Chaperone where they forgot to give EP more than one number.....

Patti is playing Joanne so she'll sing a couple of numbers with others and then towards the end she gets her BIG solo number 'The Ladies Who Lunch' (I posted a clip earlier in the thread of La LuPone singing it at the Sondheim 80th Birthday show). And it's a biggie! She'll bring the house down. And if you check your phone while she's singing it, she'll bring you down with it.

Oh. And here is La LuPone singing the living sh*taroonie out of 'Being Alive' at yet another Sondheim celebration show. From the 90s if you couldn't tell from the hair.
Eat your heart out Rosalie.

Oh my God. The hair. The jacket. The voice. She NEEDS to sing this song. Ladies Who Lunch is fine, but it's no Being Alive!

With a full martini glass! From the front row! As for EP in The Drowsy Chaperone, well that show existed on Broadway before EP took the role in London, so she knew full well what she was getting herself into! haha.

Those who saw Patti during her week's run at the Leicester Square Theatre with Seth Rudetksy will remember how thrilling her Ladies Who Lunch was. I was sitting in the front row on the last show and was honored to have been splashed by her water in the martini glass.

I do hope she does a few solo shows whilst she’s in town. God so do I! How amazing. Though guess she doesn't do With One Look and As If We Never Said Goodbye anymore. Desperate for the day her and ALW kiss and make up. (Though as she said to Norton, that ain't ever gonna happen...)

Felt very, very luck to have been there on a night she sang it.

Norma Desmond. The original. The best.

I saw Patti play Joanne in the Lincoln Centre's version of Company (I was sitting right behind Stephen Sondheim) and she was friggin' amazing. She stole the whole show, not only with her spectacular 'Ladies Who Lunch', but also with her facial expressions during all the dance numbers.

Judging by your avatar photograph, Dom- a) It's not really you... b) It is you but it's a very old photograph... c) It is you and boy, don't you look good for your age...! d) You're fibbin'. You'd like to have seen her but you didn't really... e) You genuinely think you've seen her but you're getting mixed up; you actually saw Glenn Close (or was it Ria Jones?) last year at the Coli f) You must have been about three when you saw her in the original London run... Fess up!

Fess up! Haha, brilliant! Photo is three years old I think so I was 37 (am 40 now). Is well lit lol. I was 17 when Patti was in Sunset; I grew up on the ALW mega musicals #gayboyheaven! (Appreciate this is going off topic but lucky to have been old enough that have seen nearly all the UK Normas. Off to see Ria in Leicester tmr) Back to Company, listened to Ladies Who Lunch a few times now and am indeed salivating at the thought of LuPone delivering it (though still hoping they'll let her duet Being Alive as an encore.

Need to dig it out; is somewhere in my parent's house!

I see this has become the homage to Patti LuPone website, and why not. I am ashamed to admit that I saw Patti's solo show as part of the Sydney Festival some years ago but alas, being totally jet-lagged after the dreaded direct flight from London, I remember little about it except that I thought it was brilliant.
But if I may return to Company, I remember being hugely impressed by the original London production with Larry Kert, Donna McKechnie and Elaine Stritch in 1972, but that was back in the days when boys were boys........OK, OK, stop throwing things at me. I'll go back into my own personal time warp if I can find a taxi. Uber???
