Andie MacDowell was at the performance last Friday. I wonder if Bill Murray will be attending at some point also? (Hopefully it won't close before then!)

I have nothing constructive to add except I am loving the Cast Recording and could happily live inside it for a bit.

With the Drama Desk Awards about to be announced, I imagine it will do well in this one in terms of nominations. Obviously whenever I say that it doesn't happen, but lets see

Just the one nomination: Andy Karl

Seriously nothing for set, costume, choreo, lighting, direction?!? Aside from all that which is still disappointing, I am MAJORLY surprised and a little annoyed that Chris Nightingale didn't get a nomination for his incredible orchestrations. Something's wrong there! At least they're not Dear Evan Hansen - I believe that received absolutely no nominations according to BroadwayWorld? And I don't know whether it's a BroadwayWorld type or what, but they've listed Sweeney Todd as a nominee for Best Sound Design of a Play (Matt Stine). www.broadwayworld.com/article/Breaking-HELLO-DOLLY-ANASTASIA-COME-FROM-AWAY-Lead-the-Pack-in-Drama-Desk-Awards-Nominations-20170427

Dear Evan Hansen was eligible last year (due to it's Off Broadway run), therefore making it ineligible this year. The Drama Desk nominations were really bizarre. I think that the Outer Critics Circle Award nominations made more sense IMO.

Putting both sets of nominations side by side, I'm in agreement with you there!

I imagine come Tony Awards the only safe bet is Andy Karl for Best Actor, which if Ben Platt doesn't win, he seems like the next in line to win.

Oh how I worried about Andy Karl last summer on stage in London with all those clothes on ...
(cue Ryan with an inappropriate comment)
... looks like Andy Karl needs that fur coat in that NY weather!

Is it just me who thinks that was the most random bit of the show to perform on TV?

I had no interest in seeing this show last year but now after watching the trailer, I would like to give it a go should it return to London! Looks like fun!

A great episode on TheatreTalk with Danny Rubin, Andy Karl and Matthew Warchus (filmed during previews, I believe before Andy tore his ACL).
Of course it would have been great if Tim Minchin was there also, and I would've thought they'd talk to Matthew a bit about The Old Vic. Nonetheless, still a good discussion about this incredible show.

So glad that this wasn't snubbed with the Tony noms, even if there is still a chance it might not win any. But I hope it will give this show the boost it needs, I'd hate to see them announce closure any time soon like American Psycho did last year.

If this gets more time than Rocky then it's already a win for Three-time Nominee Andy Karl.

Andy Karl rackin' them awards up! He just won the Outer Critics Award for Actor in a Musical. Bear in mind he wasn't up against Ben Platt as he was considered for the Off-Broadway run of Dear Evan Hansen for most awards bar the Tonys, it makes Andy the favourite to win the Drama Desk and a potential spoiler for the Tony, though it will go to Ben. If anyone beats Ben, it will be Andy!

I saw this last weekend, and what a powerhouse Andy Karl is (and really, that entire cast). I saw him in Jersey Boys and Rocky and am so glad he's able to shine so brightly in this show. And speak in a standard American accent this time. Ha. I enjoyed that the musical takes a darker, existential-crisis-prompting turn moreso than the film. In the film, you laugh at and watch Bill Murray with intrigue -- on stage, you laugh at and then go along with Andy Karl's suffering. It made me afraid to go to sleep that night, but at least I'd be seeing Groundhog Day again over and over?! Sorry if a lot of this has been rehashed; I purposely stayed away from most of this thread before I realized I'd be seeing it.

To really freak yourself out, make a clip of the Groundhog radio jingle and use it as your alarm in the morning. 😳

Ha! That is CRUEL and also, I guess they couldn't get the rights from Sonny & Cher? Or they didn't want to bother?

Ha! That is CRUEL and also, I guess they couldn't get the rights from Sonny & Cher? Or they didn't want to bother? In this interview Danny Rubin says that it didn't matter what the song was just as long as it was obnoxious to Phil and it has to be repeated a lot. Also it would be unfair to Tim Minchin's music as it doesn't fit in with his style. (skip to the final question at 27:20)
