^I'd forgotten what a great song that is. Though I can't decide if it's been re-orchestrated for Broadway or I'm just not remembering it very well from last August. The first part sounds more country-and-western-ish than I remember.

It's always been a very country song. I'll have a thorough listen later and deliver my verdict.

I think it sounds a bit more country because it's a studio recording and you can really listen to the details of the orchestrations.

That's pretty close to the London version. I can't wait for next Friday to have the full recording!

If I Had My Time Again and Seeing You have both been released on iTunes - if you've pre-ordered the album

You can buy them individually too, without having to pre-order.

It was all quite country yes. I really enjoyed it which is weird because i don't like country music at all but loved the songs with that element in this show. It really fitted the piece and is beautiful. It's what i love about Theatre because through shows I've appreciated a lot more type of music. Rap, RnB, Classical, Country, rock, motown...none of which i thought were really my cup of tea.
That recoreding though loses something from the live performance to me. I think it's too polished and produced, it feel a bit flat to me.

The studio recordings make it easier to hear all the different aspects, which really doesn't match my memory of being in a theatre and hearing everything rather less perfectly. Though at least I can hear the full emotion in the vocals, that makes up a bit for not having the faces to look at. I would rather have liked to have had the dialogue recorded as well (I could NEVER figure out what the drunk man was shouting) but I really really am just grateful to have the cast recording forthcoming.

Yes, I guess that's why I thought the orchestrations sounded different. It's probably actually that I'm hearing more details from the close-up studio recording than I did from two thirds of the way back in the Old Vic stalls. I've had Seeing You going round my head today & am now listening again. I'll definitely have to buy the cast recording when it comes out next month, if it's available in the UK.

I don't do downloads. I want an actual physical CD if I'm paying! And isn't iTunes only if you have Apple products, which I don't.

And isn't iTunes only if you have Apple products, which I don't. It's also an application for buying digital content that you can run on a standard PC. I think it used to be that you had to use their app to play the things you bought, but these days you can download it in a form that you can play on anything. (Well, on anything that can play digital content.)

^Oh, right. I'm evidently out of date. I think I'll still wait for the CD though!

I always thought iTunes was just for use with iPods and similar things so I kind of tuned it out, until there was an album that I wanted to buy that was only available on iTunes so I did some digging around and discovered that it was possible to buy music on iTunes and play it anywhere.
("I-tuned it out". Geddit?)

Its still not setting the box office on fire really. It is increasing, but it only grossed $621,651 this past week. Which is by no ,eams awful, but less than I thought it would do.

And less than 50% potential gross. Less than American Psycho had this time last year and we all know what happened there.
I think unfortunately it was a misstep to take it to Broadway this soon.

I found American Psycho and Groundhog Day to be more effective than American musicals of the last decade or so. Only the Miranda shows, Next to Normal and Fun Home have really appealed as much. I find the same with American plays, very few I find interesting, Annie Baker, the shows from TEAM, when Kushner makes an effort and little else.
This didn't used to be the case but I find too many American shows to be generic and 'well made' at the expense of any edge. I don't find the same with US TV though, which is much more innovative nowadays.

What do you think of Great Comet? Pretty good and the Chavkin connection helps me to look favourably on it. I haven't seen the visual side of it, yet, though, which apparently adds to the effect. When you think of the Kander & of Ebbs, Sondheims, Colemans, Bock & Harnicks though, there isn't any real set of songwriters to compare. Miranda, obviously, Flaherty & Ahrens started off strong but have faded, the same with Menken. I like the JRB, Lachiusa and (very limited) Guettel scores but they get little support from American audiences.

Also, I did see Dave Malloy's Ghost Quartet in Edinburgh last year, nice songs but not a theatricalised show. The Natasha score is much more cohesive.

It's weird hearing it without periodic applause for another failed attempt! There's some vocal variation at the end too, but it really does sound great.

I've heard that they have added another illusion which involves Andy Karl climbing a ladder but magically ending up back in the bed
