Literally watched the results show because of Adam Lambert... what talented man! But it once again just showed how disrespectful it is to the guest singers on the Strictly results show to make then share the stage with a pair of professional dancers. I know it is the format of the show but I found it particularly annoying last night when so much prominence was given to the dancers while I wanted to concentrate on enjoying Adam Lambert's performance. I don't mind the occasional cut-away to the dancers, but the audience being made to whoop over Adam Lambert every time Neil lifted Katya 2 inches off the floor was taking the biscuit somewhat. I wish both the BBC and ITV would stop insisting on that - everyone in the audiences I've been in has hated having to do it...and hated it even more during the re-takes when forced to do it again because we hadn't whooped loudly enough the first time. Leave it to the Xcraptster where it's necessary to drown out the caterwauling.

Previous dance experience didn't help Lee Ryan! I think simply being Lee Ryan didn't help Lee Ryan.

I thought they were more respectful to Adam Lambert than they've been to other singers this season. He got the opening verse and a whole chorus just before the finale with no dance interruption or stupid whooping. More than most people get.

I wonder if any musical guests have refused to have dancers on accompanying them. As said above far bigger names than Adam Lambert have been whopped over when a couple of pro dancers come on. I see they didn't risk Nadiya dancing to Rod Stewart number given his record with blondes. I wonder if the musical guest is asked to applaud the dancers back or not as I can remember even the legendary Neil Diamond applauding the dancers back.

They will know the deal by agreeing to appear on the show. I'd imagine the majority of guest don't need to be asked, it's a respectful thing to do and most of the acts appearing on the show probably appreciate the dancers enough to want to applaud instinctively. They don't tend to get many really cool contemporary acts on the show.

It's a massive TV audience and exposure. I suspect artists are begging to be on the show!

I won't start my rant about applause during the musical guests again suffice to say do we applaud in the middle of a song or dance in the theatre. No we don't as a mark of respect and so we can see and watch the performance.

There wasn’t any professional dancers during the Backstreet Boys performance a few weeks ago.

Semi-final dance and song choices
Ashley and Pasha Paso Doble – Spectrum (Say My Name) by Florence + the Machine American Smooth – Ain’t that a Kick in the Head by Dean Martin
Lauren and AJ Samba – Rock the Boat by the Hues Corporation Tango – Nutbush City Limits by Tina Turner
Stacey and Kevin Charleston – Five Foot Two Eyes of Blue by Spike Jones Viennese Waltz – You’re My World by Cilla Black
Faye and Giovanni Samba – I Go To Rio by Pablo Cruise Argentine Tango – La Cumparsita by Machiko Ozawa
Joe and Dianne Argentine Tango – Red Right Hand by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds Viennese Waltz – This Year’s Love by David Gray
A tricky week for many of them.
On paper, Lauren seems to have the hardest combination. Samba is a difficult one unless you can really sell it. And that Tina song doesn't shout Tango to me.
But it is impossible to say at this stage as to who will be up against Ashley in the dance off.

Joe doing an Argentine tango could be a hard dance for him, Gio and Faye I'd feel would make a good fist of theirs.

I just caught up on Strictly last night after being away at the weekend.
I enjoyed Stacey and Kevin's dance the most, but then I am a sucker for a foxtrot (or an American Smooth Foxtrot).
I found Charles and Karen's dance really hard to watch, mainly because of the music. There was no rumba in the music at all. I couldn't tell whether or not they were on time because it was almost as if the music was separate to the dance?

It is a hard dance - but he has a bit more of a performer about him and so he might be able to sell it. Nothing that Lauren has done has shown me that she can actually perform. She can do the steps (most of the time) but she never really sells things. AJ does all the work in their routines in terms of communicating to the audience. Faye should be ok with the AT - she has been pretty adaptable throughout. Plus she has a reasonably authentic piece of music (more Tango than AT - but close enough) - it is always easy to engage with T and AT when danced to something that sounds like a Tango. (This is an additional reason why Joe might find it tougher as his track really doesn't)

Lauren surely has to be in the dance off this week with Ashley I assume.

Charleston - traditional, some clunky dismounts but quite entertaining. VW - very touching - undermarked Paso - it really wasn't a paso. No Spanish flair, no real basic content. Very ugly hair

I hate it when Bruno and Shirley stand up at their judging table to watch sections of the performance. It’s like “”ooh look at me I’m analysing it more than the other judges”. They only do it when they know they’re in shot. Total fakery.

That Paso was not worth 36 - 32 at most.

Very bad tango. Awful music. Lauren is very insecure. Lacking attack and crispness. AJ is dragging her at times.
Mid 20s is what it is worth

Overmarked tango
Fun, classic Samba - my fave of the first set of dances

Round 2
VW - too much wafting around and it was only half a VW (which was a bit to frenetic at times)

Massive overmarking for half a dance there for that VW

AT - hampered by bad music choice. Joe is a bit too careful in this. Lacks real passion.

Very ugly lift there from Pasha - who is normally so reliable. It was going quite well up to that point. Felt a good AS
But it ends up wobbly and out of sync

This AS is going to be overmarked

And yes it was. It was 35 at most for the clunky lifts/dismounts and out of sync sequences.

Samba nightmare. She keeps going wrong. And then going wrong again.
They have to be marked down

Dance of the night from Faye - ideal music and some great moments
This is the only dance of the night to really command 10s
