I thought that too. Seems a bit odd. They do choose odd songs don’t they? Is Mary Poppins a character from a show...originally..Er, I think a movie. So then why not other movies like Frozen? Or a million others? And Cabaret is so specialised. Then why not 42nd St, a great dance song. Oh well.

Here we go with Musicals week...
Will Rumba be the end of Mollie?

Helly Dolly risks being Farewell Gemma - Nice frock (for once) but there was too much faffing on the stairs at the beginning (which I know echos the original) but she looks petrified throughout. She is not good enough to go much further

Now was get a Hopelessly Devoted Rumba (the gags write themselves with that music choice...)
Costumes look reasonably similar to the film though AJ should be in leather.
Too much pre-dance faffing - again. Very little real Rumba feel - more like a show dance .
Dull and and quite hopeless for her future in the competition.

So goodbye, Molly.....
An illegal lift and she still gets a 9? Ridiculous

It seems that Craig and Darcy are the only ones prepared to be honest about the dance content - which is a shame.

Ridiculous over-marking for that Rumba - 6/7 was right. 9s - ridiculous

Will Joe's Samba be on the Money, Money...?
Hate his make-up.
Slip up at the beginning with the vocal timing. The music is wrong for a Samba - it fits a Charleston
Style is just all wrong. Doesn't work as a latin number.

Also second song in a row that wasn't in the original stage version...

And shut us Tess.
The judges are being too kind. It is almost as if they have a favourite they are trying to push.
This is a dance that should get 7/8 - but it will score higher.

And indeed it did - worth 30 at most, got 37. Totes ridic.

Will Debbie's American Smooth leave her with a happy Memory?
Great costume for her, his hair looks a bit too Wolverine
The neck spin was spectacular
It had a nice feel overall

Will Davood's AT be the Dance of the Night??
After the clunky and inelegant start, I doubt it. His footwork doesn't seem crisp enough. Some tentative moves in the lifts. The music doesn't allow for that real AT spirit to emerge.
Didn't like it at all. Too much flinging around and not enough real AT content.

Alexandra doing the Charleston- it should be super...
But that frock is really something quite atrocious - more Pocohontas than Poppins
Her legs with the boots lack any elegance.
Not the best Charleston of the year. Clunky and I spotted some timing issues.

OK - Craig didn't give it a 10 - but still overmarked.

If i had my way it would be Mollie and Joe in the dance off, Mollie to go

Mollie and Gemma just aren't of a standard to be in a semi-final - but one of them will be...

It’s free. People can fill their boots I liked Alexandra’s Charleston. Especially as she had a bit of heel on HER boots.

I am hoping that Gemma will leave this week. She's very nice but I don't think she's on the same level as the others.
Surprisingly, I thought Joe's was the dance of the night.
Debbie was overmarked. Again.
I am a big fan of Alexandra's but I thought her Charleston was overmarked.

Very impressed with Debbie tonight, that lift was great! I do hope she wins (as much as I love Joe). Agree that Alexandra’s costume looked more Pocahontas than Mary Poppins, very random. Overall I liked the costumes and make up this week. I’m hoping for a Mollie v Davood dance off.

It’s free. People can fill their bootsI liked Alexandra’s Charleston. Especially as she had a bit of heel on HER boots. Is it? Good. Is there any chance the Strictly spoiler thread can be kept open longer than you allowed last week so those of us who want to respond to posts in it after the results show is broadcast stand a chance of some kind of discussion? Thanks.

Surely after the results show it’s no longer a spoiler so can be discussed here in the main thread?

^^ Exactly, and if it’s left open we end up with people having discussion about the show (not the spoiler) in two different threads which is why I’m locking it after the result is broadcast.

Just caught up and thought it was the best show this series. (It probably won't have gone unnoticed that I may have had a few little teeny-weeny grouches in recent weeks. Oh, and I haven't mentioned Aston for at least 5 minutes. ) Mollie and Gemma are now looking far apart from the others in my opinion. Although Davood got criticised he is more of a showman than they are, so more audience-pleasing. I'm sure I said something similar about someone last year, but it should be against the law for anyone to wear ballet shoes whose feet are not ballet trained, as they looked like plates of meat. However, if they insist on doing so, then at least get someone to fit them properly. Oh, and that was as much a rhumba as I am a big Burly Monkey.... I loved Debbie, Joe, Davood and Alexandra. I love Gorka (I do I do I do!) but was thinking what Craig said about his swivels before he said it. (Doesn't hold out much hope for him in the celebrity challenge thingy on It Takes Two, does it?!) Not looking at the spoiler thread this week as I care a bit more than I have done previously and would prefer a surprise. Hope it's Mollie and Gemma, with Mollie to go. I suspect it might be Joe and Mollie though.......but I presume you've all looked so I'll shut up me rambling now.

^^ Exactly, and if it’s left open we end up with people having discussion about the show (not the spoiler) in two different threads which is why I’m locking it after the result is broadcast. But there are posts in the spoiler thread that people might want to respond to after broadcast that you then can't quote if it's locked, so it does kill the discussion a bit. Personally I think it's a bit overkill to lock it at all, we're all adults here and it feels like being treated as a child, but if you must do so then please don't do it until Monday!
