Oh alright loves calm yourselves, I love a good moan as much as the next person...but a few posts have sounded as if it was actual torture to watch it, so I was just saying why bother if that's the case.
This board was fun once upon a time...

I don't have a problem with using non traditional music, as long as it's done with style and imagination. But the number of times they use the same old tunes series after series is just dull. There are so many songs that could inspire original and quirky routines, but the producers are terrified of using any song that is unfamiliar to the masses. They should be looking to inspire their audience with great material, not just spew up Balls and Boe murdering new Yoik new Yoik.

Well just caught up with all this on catch up!
They really threw the kitchen sink at it this week didn't they! I know it is a big space to "fill" but it really should be directed as a TV show and not a live spectacular for the lucky few hundred in the audience!
So we had fire, pyros and confetti guns galore! Nearly everyone seemed to fly in! Huge props and HUGE musical routines with those "extra" dancers who are always just distracting. All the contestants very badly served by the routines. Poor Debbie in that dreadful Spice girls number - not her finest hour and Jonnie under lit in a truly misconceived routine.
When you could focus on the actual contestants (which was difficult) I discovered very little actual relevant dance content to judge. Goodness knows what the judges saw through the lights and confetti! The lack of actual dance content is a real problem in this series generally - this seems to be being sacrificed for "storytelling"!
As mentioned above - some of the costumes are abysmal - have they cut the budget or spent it on pyros instead?

Agree with every word of your post, wickedgrin . Could I also mention wigs? Poor, poor Debbie... And in addition to the kitchen sink we had not one but two guest slots in the Results Show- the guy from Tears For Fears in a black tee-shirt (nice!) and Ball and Boe looking ‘all swarve’ in their untied dickies singing each other’s faces off in New York, New York. I’d have preferred to see them dressed like all the sports, in a blazer and a pair of shorts, giving their rendition of With my little stick of Blackpool Rock. Oops! I almost forgot the celebs in the audience that were winkled in for good measure- Lenny Henry, Graham (Ooh! A free ticket, yes, I’ll be there!) Norton, Peter Kay, Muriel Grey (??) and J.K.Rowling looking younger by the minute. And I couldn’t have been the only person on their sofa asking, “WTF is Northen Soul?” After all the hype, Blackpool was a bit of a disappointment this year really. Ah well! Back to a bit of normality next week...

I was out and saw through someone's window. So there was someone there. I knew it. Up and down all night I was! This is all getting a bit spooky. First you get one of your 10 year olds to hack into my cloud and steal my photos, and now this. It must stop. What did you think of Gorka's sparkly pants? I hope you got the full effect through my net curtains.

Catching up with the results show. Oh dear. The New York duet. So much effort for so little effect. The singers that is. Dancers ok.

Yes Debbie did stumble very slightly near the end, twice. But the dance made more sense on second viewing. But for first time viewing it was a mess.

Found this season to be pretty poor overall. Watch the feet, there has been so little content overall!
Anyone seen the American version? Better costumes by far! Link to Mark Ballas, son of Maria.

Blimey! Which one's the pro?( And who's Maria?) Doh! Shirley Ballas, sorry. Mark Ballas is the pro in the US. I used to watch the Dancing With The Stars when it was shown on Sky. They have 2 series a year, it's madly popular over there. Their costumes are amazing. The visual set-up is exactly like the UK but you can see there are some serious £$£$£ spent.

It's a shame they don't show it here. It looks much shinier than our version. I caught a bit of Vincent on It Takes Two this evening. You gotta love him....he wanted to give the team a standing ovulation for the Blackpool spectacular!

DWTS is even further removed from actual dancing than Strictly is - all their dances are just variations upon a theme of showdance! If Strictly fully turned into DWTS then I'd stop watching, though it's getting closer every year.

^Well poster J I suppose it depends if you watch for entertainment or actual dance content. I loved the clip above posted by londonmzfitz and it seemed pretty technical to the untrained eye! But you're right - definitely a bit showdancey. Do the Americans stop working for the duration and spend more hours training? It was certainly more polished than most of the dances we get here. (Exceptions Alexandra, Aston and Debbie who are/were not working.) Which reminds me - now we get even less polished performances as they have to do the stupidathon as well as their own dance. I've predicted the finishing order every single year. Short of someone falling over it's pretty much a foregone conclusion.

I've predicted the finishing order every single year. Short of someone falling over it's pretty much a foregone conclusion. Exactly - I watch for dance content so DWTS is pretty off-putting to me, which is why I said I would stop watching it - I have no issue with others thinking differently! They also do a lot of styles that aren't ballroom & Latin which I don't really care about, and from clips I have seen spend even less time dancing per routine than celebs do on Strictly. A lot of the celebs on Strictly do spend a lot of time training - I remember Danny Mac talked about doing 13 hours per day, 6 days a week for the last few weeks last year, but it depends on their day jobs and how much they're willing/able to give up - there is no minimum. The performances will never be properly polished, as getting a routine to a professional standard would take months rather than days. The people who are good at picking up the steps quickly or don't have to travel halfway up the country every week probably have a bit of an advantage though!

They are putting Debbie in a black dress. They must think it is time for her to go. Dark dresses don’t do well.

They are putting Debbie in a black dress. They must think it is time for her to go. Dark dresses don’t do well. Now the competition is getting "serious," costumes, music, dances, running order are all vital tools to manipulate the vote. Incidentally, despite the "show business bon-homie" that abounds, I thought the expression on Debbie's face when she was revealed to be in the dance off was priceless. It is filmed as "live" and she was clearly completely shocked and did not expect to be in the dance off at all. She was rendered speechless until she managed to recover her composure!

Dark dresses are fine for the Argentine Tango - it is a sensuous, moody dance (probably my favourite when done to traditional music)
I think Debbie will do just fine this week.
Susan doing American Smooth, however, has many risks.

Mollie won't be able to disguise her weaknesses in the quickstep... no lifts allowed, so she and Gemma will be in the dance off with Mollie to go.

I’m putting on my wishlist already. As long as it features this one: And this one: Come to think of it, are you looking for a producer...?

Panto, radio show....” ”GET THE BLACK DRESS!!!” I’m beginning to wonder if any of them are going to sign the bloody tour contracts. For the first time ever, I’ve got tickets to see this in February (last year’s Christmas present from my dad) and I’m beginning to wonder if we’ll see any of them dance apart from Jonnie Peacock and Susan Bloody Calman! And if she does that friggin’ paso, I’m off to the lav. Or the bar. Or to the merchandise stand. Or to the bus-stop.
