If I have to choose between circle A1 or A36, which side is less restricted? Thank you. Depends which scene you don't mind your view being cut off a bit- so in A1 you might not be able to see the whole of the organ set piece in Music of the Night, as well as the last few seconds of Think of Me and Wishing when Christine finishes the song downstage left. Never sat in A36 but by logic I assume then you'll miss a bit of the mirror bride, as well as some brief action downstage right in Prima Donna and the Final Lair.

I’d recommend A1, given that much of the managers’ scenes take place downstage right.

I've not sat at the edges of the dress circle but I have sat at both edges in the upper circle & would definitely say being on the low numbers side is better.

Yes I agree but what about christens dressing room because that is on the left isn't it? but I would rather miss that small section compared to the two longer scenes that take place on the right

Though in fairness Phantom is often half-price on the TKTS board for a Saturday matinee.

I got tickets for £30 Front row stage right via GILT new year sale.
Fab seats, great view. I am tall and leg/knee room was fine, it's feet room that's restricted but didn't bother me the slightest.

So for my final day off GILT experience, made a return visit to Phantom today. Got row E stalls aisle for 40 quid, great seat. Show was in excellent shape and for first time in living memory audience were on perfect behaviour and I wasn't surrounded by chattering tourists! Entire 1st cast were on and they were all fabulous.
Only one moan - bought the programme and brochure bundle. Got home, opened the brochure, and saw last year's cast listed on 1st page. Am sorry, but wasn't cast change like about 6 months ago?!?! Well annoyed, as I already have this one. Plus usually Cam Mac is excellent at updating brochures post cast change. Wonder if they've decided not to bother for this cast, or if there will be a new one but it's just REALLY late....
Anyway, glad the "brilliant original" is now fresh in my mind so I can spot all the differences on my (multiple booked) visits to the tour :-)

So no idea which swings were actually on! Isn't there an Equity rule that there must be slips in programme, OR announcement, OR updated cast board, even for small parts? Or does just listing everyone whether they are on or not get around this?! Or is that rule just for the leads and not the whole company?

Ever since I started going to Phantom 4 years ago they have done that with the cast board. The only time they move anyone is they cover a lead. So it gets a bit "spot who is on" game which is fine providing you know what everyone is meant to be doing to see what is covered. Thats why whrn i webt back to Les mis I was disappointed they changed the cast board so now you have no idea who could be on. Esp when they list everyone and those rare but wonderful shows were like 10 people are off!!

Finally ticking Phantom and Her Majesty's Theatre off the list tonight! Took a punt at a last min ticket as I have a free evening to myself, as I've never seen the show in person before! Can't wait to finally see 'brilliant original' for myself!

Can't wait to finally see 'brilliant original' for myself! What did you think of the show? Who did you have on for Christine and the Phantom? Joining the Phantom band wagon after discovering the film many years ago, it was so great to actually see where it all started! Because I was in the Balcony, I completely missed the cast board! But from what I could see, I think we had the main 3 on! I thought all performanced were great, I have always found Meg annoying, and was only reminded more of how annoying she is haha! I did find all the leads really strong vocally, though there were a few moments where I thought Josh could have been more angry or upset, but I might be just too used to Ramin in the 25th filming. I really enjoyed it, I have always loved some of the music, and think some of thr music is Act 2 is some of the best in musical theatre. I was worried that I would find the production tired, since it is the 'brilliant original', but overall I still think it holds up really well! Being up thr top, I really felt the full effect of the surround sound system, at times it sounded like the Phantom was right behind my ear, at other moments it sounded like he was the other side of thr theatre. I do think some things could do with being updated, and I found the chandelier very anti climatic! I just feel even sone sound effects to accompany it would help, being a fan of thr film, the chandelier is so dramatic, where I think it just feels flat! Though it raising from the stage during the Overture is something to behold! Also being top level, I saw the 2 stage hands come through the curtain to catch it, which ruined the moment ever so slight. The entry to the lair on the lake during the title song is still so magical, and works still so well, it's so simple, but is really effective! I unfortunately was sat the extreme house left, so did miss some key moments downstage right, mainly the major moments in the final lair. It's also the side the office is situated, so missed moments there, which didn't help when people leaned forward. Overall I really enjoyed it, so glad I have finally seen some musical theatre history!

I think no matter where you are you see the stage hands, they don't really try to hide and I'm sure for health and safety reasons the place has to be lit up when they're about to catch it. I do agree it could do with a bit more pizzazz, unless you're sitting right underneath it, it doesn't have much of an effect.

ALW has been a JOY throughout lockdown.
As ever, for me, it's music that gets me through a crisis. The generosity of the arts community has meant a lot to me as someone send isolating on their own.

I don't like all those shows/videos from living rooms at the moment, but this was just great.

I hope this isn't true. I'd always assumed Cameron Mackintosh was one of the more generous producers.

I hope this isn't true. I'd always assumed Cameron Mackintosh was one of the more generous producers. That guy is always miserable. And for someone with over 20 thousand subscribers it’s a little odd that he barely scraps a couple of hundred views for his videos.....

I don't mind Alex Belfield (I do like some of his reviews), but he does come off as a bit of a prat. But on the subject at hand, I do hope that this is not true as well. I know there's definitely going to be some issues, but I don't know how badly it will affect some current shows. For me personally, I think Phantom, Les Mis and Hamilton will reopen because those three are so successful and in regards to Phantom and Les Mis, they have stood the test of time. As for newer shows, like the Mary Poppins revival, I'm not so sure.

Looks like a similar situation to what happened with Les Mis.
Baz commented on my tweet "There will be tears"
I'm assuming it'll be close to the touring version?
Thoughts? X x x
