Yes, cast change was a couple of weeks ago. As far as I can see, the principal cast have not changed - all the changes are in the ensemble cast. Some of the cast members have been with the show for a very long time. Good good.

Shockingly,I am ashamed to say it is my first ever visit to this in a few weeks time.Really hope it will live up to its iconic reputation for me.

Finally got to see this tonight and thought it was a total bore from start to finish.A show that thinks it’s more subversive and clever than it is.Maybe it has not aged well? Rather cheap staging and sets not dissimilar to some of the am-dram shows I have been involved in over the years....lol.You would expect more from a WE show. Forgettable songs sung badly, bargain basement choreography and toe-curlingly naff jokes. Glad I’ve ticked it off the list but,for me,easily one of the very worst MT shows I have ever seen. Are we allowed to award minuses when rating shows?

Or perhaps turn off those negative thoughts like a light switch?

Lol...just knew a backlash was coming...glad you clearly adore the show.I felt more like the oft-mentioned 🐸 in the show for paying to see this witless nonsense.

There are usually a few walkouts from Book of Mormon. Three within the first 10 minutes when I saw it at Bristol last month. I guess a tiny percentage who book have no idea what to expect.

I didnt hate it like xandy and certainly dont find it offensive. and I think that was part of the problem, it's all so meh. The jokes you can spot a mile off, and if all feels quite cliche and I never understand what people find so 'original' about it. Some good songs though.

I absolutely fail to understand its popularity.

Am I the only one that really likes it? ;-; I really like it. Seen it a few times in London and looking forward to seeing it again in Southampton. I can see why people wouldn't like it, whether that is for the premise, content or overall dislike.

If you had heard the cast CD before you saw it, you didn't need to see it. I was toying with the idea of seeing the tour in Leeds. I didn't even need to listen to the full CD to know it wasn't for me, just those free excerpts you get on Amazon. If that makes me close-minded, then I'm close-minded!

It's good the first time, any subsequent viewings are a bit boring as you know what's coming up and the material itself isn't that amazing to make you want to see it over and over.
However, it's a good first time show for a person who isn't keen on the 'idea' of a musical.

Am I the only one that really likes it? ;-; I know you're being hyperbolic, but clearly, no, a show doesn't run this long nor does it have this many productions if it only has one fan.

I really like the show, but just paid my 3rd visit in 3 years and feel like I’ve seen it now. It is what it is and is still running without discounts in the W/E as far as I’m aware. Maybe its another ‘cheaper to see it here’ for tourists’ like Hamilton?

I used to go quite a lot, but now I only visit it maybe once or twice a year. It still is a very good show, but it doe lose the impact after a while. It has also had the same actors in the leading roles for ages - it could do with a bit of a shake up casting wise - though I do think Dom Simpson is excellent in the leading role.

To this day, I don't understand how come people don't find this show offensive. All my friends love it and most of them are much more sensitive on touchy subjects than me and they always tell me what's appropriate to say in public. Yet, they find it funny and harmless, which genuinely baffles me, and call me silly when I say it's basically a minstrel show.

I loved the show but I am also ashamed of it as I found the treatment of African village/people appaling. I am sure the show would have worked without the reference to babies.

I think the above comments are valid and of course people can be offended by anything but miss the very point of the shock-humour. Anyone that has ever seen an episode of South Park will understand - and sure, the humour isn’t for everyone. But the very premise of its humour is that it is supposed to be offensive. Conversely, and thinking off the top of my head, I personally find certain parts of Six (won’t specify because of potential spoilers) FAR more offensive than BOM purely because BOM’s shock-humour is consistently distasteful and the parts of Six I am alluding to are jarringly distasteful. However the success of this show is undeniable and it still seems to be doing really well.

It's surely there simply for that shock factor as mentioned above. The times I've seen it, there has always been an audience gasp when it's first mentioned.

I personally find the tour cast x1000 better than the current London cast. So much more energy.

^western sky and others...it is not the shock value of the show that I disliked.Have seen much more disturbing movies/plays etc in my time.Even acted in some very shocking stuff in the past. No,it was,I think the fact that apart from the cheap sets, forgettable songs etc,the writing of this was just so predictable and lazy. True satire is biting because it is clever. This was juvenile and very boring.Like a rejected script for a very adult Carry On movie.Like shooting fish in a very small barrel. Some examples...the plodding and tedious joke about mis-pronouncing the girls’ name with the pay-off being Nigel Farage...Farage jokes in 2020?Really? Saw the militia leaders conversion a mile off...boring! Let’s have a scene in hell and guess who appears?Yes,it’s Adolf Hitler...boring! The ‘show within a show’ for the Mormon leader re-hashes jokes that didn’t even work earlier in the show...lazy! My heart is set on going to Florida on my mission and I get...omg Uganda!....with...omg the least desirable partner...and omg we don’t know where Uganda even is and we certainly can’t pronounce it. I could go on and on and on... And yes,I do know that some MT is packed with coincidences, mistaken identities, predictable situations, etc etc but this show purports to be more subversive than that and it just isn’t.It is basically, the Emperors new clothes.Felt like anti-MT and maybe that’s the attraction? The cast tried their best but were just going through the motions...is this a cast close to the end of their contracts? A message to the BOM fans...Instead of telling non-fans why you think we don’t like the show, perhaps one of the fans can explain why you ARE fans...I would sincerely like to know👂

I couldn't disagree with you more on some of your points. Yes some of the show is juvenile, but coming from the writers of South Park, that shouldn't have come as a surprise. I think their use of humour (if you have that sense of humour)is great. yes there is shock tactics, but all of it is based in fact. General Butt Naked was a real person, and what they did to people was real as well. Should we be laughing at this? Probably not, but because of the way it's presented, it can be funny. The show is an equal opportunites offender, everyone is played to 11 and everyone is a target, but not in any malicious way.
Spooky Mormon Hell Dream is boring? So you expected to see Jeffrey Dahmer and Johnny Cochran on stage in a musical, along with dancing coffee cups and donughts?
The music for me is anyting but forgettable. Theres alot of variety in there, great melodies, some great lyrics and i enjoy listening to the cast recording.
You think it felt like anti-MT? That couldn't be further from the truth. If anything the show is a love letter to musical theatre. There are so many references to classic MT in there, its one big homage. It's written as a traditional book musical as well.
Obviously it wasn't for you, but it shouldn't be written off just because you didn't like it. It appeals to a huge audience and there's a reason its still doing so well. I've been 3 times and although i'm not rushing back, i will still go again.
