Yes I also loved the recent Broadway production so this has a lot to live up to, but the story and particularly the songs are so charming that I'm sure it'll be fabulous no matter what.

Does it really matter if a fringe production isn't a Broadway production? How many people will see both? I enjoyed the recent one at the Landor but I expect this to be a little more classy

Especially since the Broadway production was filmed and televised, I think more people would be in a position to compare, even though most of us who would see both would have seen the Broadway version only on their computers screens.

Yes exactly. I'm sure a lot of musical theatre fans watched the televised version, but a lot of tje average thratre going public probably wouldn't have.
Perhaps in my own past post I should have said 'a lot to live up to in my eyes'. The recent Broadway production was gorgeous, but every musical I've seen at the Menier has been fabulous and I expect that this'll be no exception. And most of the Menier audiences probably won't be comparing this to anything (or anything recent at least). Besides, we know next to nothing about this new production yet.
Exciting times anyway. Can't wait to hear who will be in this!

Indeed. There was a very good television version in the 80s with Robin 'Poldark' Ellis and Gemma Craven which lurks around the internet but I doubt many people have seen it recently. I just find these sort of comparisons a bit pointless except to give people an opportunity to show off about how often they visit New York or how they've been going to the theatre since Michael Redgrave was a juvenile lead...

Does anyone remember the Menier when it was a chocolate factory? No, but you can still buy Menier chocolate bars in some branches of Sainsburys! (Rather nicely packaged but tastes revolting as it's cooking chocolate, I believe...) I once attended a chocolate themed New Years Eve Do there. You paid an overall price for tickets for Sunday in the Park, pre-show dinner in the restaurant, after show champagne, and dancing to a jazz band. The chocolate bit was the promise of a chocolate fountain... The evening wasn't without incident: dinner-excellent, show- breathtaking (Daniel Evans, I miss you on stage), champagne- very nice, jazz band- good. There didn't appear to be a chocolate fountain, much to everyone's disappointment (some of the cast joined us for this part of the evening in the restaurant area) and more champagne was poured to make up for the delay. Still no chocolate fountain... Eventually, there was an announcement: the chocolate fountain was in transit in a van which had been stopped by the police. Traffic was at a standstill outside and all around the theatre and it was unlikely to make it. To tell the truth I can't remember whether it appeared or not before we left. But because of the traffic situation outside it took us about three hours to drive a ten mile journey home! Did anyone here attend this evening? (Actually it was outstanding value, and I don't think they've ever repeated it.) Don't know She Loves Me but will probably give it a try.

EDIT: March 5th on that tweet but March 4th on all the artwork on the website! But then back to March 5th on all the website writing. So who knows...

I wonder how much the tickets will be? 50 pound? They really need to realise that they are a small fringe venue still.

I wonder how much the tickets will be? 50 pound? They really need to realise that they are a small fringe venue still. I don't think they particularly care seeing as most of their big musicals over the last few years have practically been complete sell out's! They charge high prices, people complain.....then they book to see the show anyway! To them, those who don't book don't matter as someone else will.

I saw the Savoy production and thought it really boring with a so so score...I think Tracie Bennett was the only saving grace. But hey we cant all like the same thing!

Does anyone remember the Menier when it was a chocolate factory? No but I saw an enamelled Menier chocolate advert in a Montmartre bistro in Paris earlier this year!

I agree with the sentiment but given the time period of the show it's unlikely that she'll be showing much leg - except in the bedroom scene, and even then...

Oooh, thanks for the reminder! I just booked a ticket for myself for the Saturday 3rd 8pm performance. I've not seen a show at the Menier since Funny Girl last christmas. I'd forgotten how pricey the tickets can be. Exciting though!

A midnight start is SO much better than the usual 10 am or even the NT's bizarre 8.30 am, as it means people are more likely to book at different times. However, at £35 for the cheapest ticket (previews/concessions), I am still not joining this party but waiting for the reviews and possible transfer. I forked out for Funny Girl and I do prefer to see productions at the original venue, but the prices for The Truth were ludicrous - and I then saw it in the West End for £10 - and have worsened since.

Just booked front row for 26th November. I would have preferred Laura Benati but I do love Scarlett.

The prices for this are ridiculous! Half the seats are "premium" at £50, a handful on the side are "meal deals" at the same price, and the rest are £40... Think I'll leave this one for a bit; they don't look as if they've shifted that many yet anyway. Seems way too top-heavy on pricing, and- as others have mentioned- there have been excellent offers later on either at the Menier or when the show has transferred. (I saw Close To You for £10 at the Criterion, second row of the stalls...)
