Prue Leith's disdain for that cupcake is palpable.

Lol. The irony of one of the auditions is you are advised a most emphatica "no" to making cupcakes! Quite right, too...

Last years winner Candice Brown is going to be in the cast of ITV's resurrected Dancing On Ice this wintertime.
So...

Thanks Burly. You've just caused me to put my fist through my screen...... Edit: And She Who Shall Not Be Named on here is also in it....that's my favourite reality programme I won't be watching. Edit (2) I've just looked at the line-up and the only one I recognise (apart from Bakeoff woman and KP) is Paul Burrell

She who shall not be named could be anyone... Paul Burrel? Anthony Cotton? Psychic Sally? Unless of course you mean forum favourite...K...K....K....K.......

Ka...Ka.....Ka....Ka......t.....i..... What's the problem? @theatremonkey likes her! I'm more concerned about Psychic Sally to be honest, doesn't she already know whose won? In which case it must be her or why would she be doing it! Not to mention Paul Burrell who I have the hots for

The Great Ape and I have agreed to differ on this one. I'm more concerned about Psychic Sally to be honest, doesn't she already know whose won? In which case it must be her or why would she be doing it! Funny. Never heard of her. (But she knows that.)

My favourite so far is Briony. None of my family like her though.

Good start to the series. But why we're they all wearing the same clothes (including the hosts and judges) 2 days running?

Mmmmm, not sure about some of the contestants, there are a few candidates for a slap. That woman eating her crisps! The hosts seem to have changed their attitude, perhaps because they feel more comfortable in the role. I'm missing me some Mary and her sage advice (pun intended!) What has Noel Fielding done to his hair and why was Sandy missing for large chunks of the show?

It did feel like the judges and presenters were going through the motions a little bit - Sandy and Noel looked particularly bored, and not really engaged in it all. The loss of Mel'n'Sue is keenly felt this year, even more than last year, I have to say. It's only the consistency of the contestant casting that gives the show it's attraction. Kim-Joy, Briony and Terry are my early favourites, Karen and Manon are marked down as the 'annoyingly perfect ones' so far, and Ruby is clearly the 'weekly meltdown' contestant, who can't cope with the timing restrictions!
Let's face it, no one would actually make wagon wheels in real life - a giant faff, and the cost of the ingredients is likely way more a packet of Burton's version, which is less than a quid for 6! Mind you, it's possible to say that about everything baked on the show. I still love it though! It's the start of autumn, for me, getting my pj's on, and watching the show with a (bought) biscuit and a cup of tea!

I thought it was a better show than usual, snappier somehow. Have they done anything apart from chop that man's hair ? I mean in editing or similar. But they certainly do cast types don’t they?

Good start to the series. But why we're they all wearing the same clothes (including the hosts and judges) 2 days running? They do that for editing I suspect, it gives them more reactions and snippets to use anywhere they like rather than having to use footage from one set day of filming 😀

There are some really annoying contestants - clearly aiming for personality and charming but tipping over into irritating
I do get annoyed at the showstoppers being so design-heavy. To be a great baker, you don't need to be an artist. But to win this, you do have to be very skilled in terms of decorating. The balance is wrong to my mind.
Paul will be trying his flirting thing on with Manon - it was clear how much he likes her from the edit.
I liked the gay dad and the dark haired DJ. There are a number of clear red shirts.
Too much Noel (with his new stranger hair and side burns)
Sometimes I wonder why I watch. I didn't meet any of these 12 at my interview - unlike the first time I tried!

I'm absolutely amazed Terry didn't get kicked out, I'll be interested to see if he's a weak contestant generally or just bad at biscuits. Hopefully he'll brighten up too, that whole woebegone thing could get old incredibly quickly.
I don't have a favourite yet (no point getting attached to anyone until it's a bit clearer who's got the stamina to go the distance), but a strong list of potential favourites. Ruby in particular could end up being a great favourite, although I could equally see me hating her just as easily. Again, let's see if she's better at non-biscuit baking...

Ruby is high on my irritating list. She seems to be just on the verge of arguing back - which is never endearing. Certainly not on the first set of challenges.
To my mind, Terry and Ruby were very lucky to have survived. Imelda was consistently poor-to-mediocre - but Terry and Ruby both had 2 complete nightmares offset by one big success (Ruby in the Technical) and one getting-away-with-it (Terry)

Young Dream would like Terry to win, on account of his moustache! Mind you, it’s very reminiscent of the one my ex-army late grandad used to sport 🙂

But I wonder about the earlier auditions for Bake Off.

Manon was excellent and deserved the win. I have a good feeling about this set of contestants, more so than last years who I felt were disappointing overall.
I love the Asian flair we have this year as I'm a huge fan of Asian cuisine so its interesting to see how that transfers to baking. I would never have considered having masala biscuits!
Manon and Kim-Joy are the ones to watch I think.

I do love “Extra Slice” so much. Possibly even more than the main show. Although I did want to throw my slipper at the telly when Russell Tovey talked about the group being of “different diversities.”
Related news - Jo Brand was at the same performance of “Twelfth Night” at the National as me, but it was before I joined here.

Do we know why Russell Tovey couldn’t eat the Wagon Wheel?

Gelatine in marshmallow, as an immediate guess. A quick Google suggests he's definitely not vegetarian but has shown interest in limiting his intake of particular meats. Alternatively he could just be watching the calories generally and a Wagon Wheel would be a step too far in the wrong direction.
