I haven't been this sad since Geri left the Spice Girls. Still at least Channel 4 isn't too bad.

Twist! I could see the Paul, Mel and Sue going to Channel 4. Maybe not Mary though. I have it on good authority that Mary can be a snob/bitch. #TheatreBoardExclusive.

I just think she might choose to retire from it as this would be a natural place to do so. She has so much work with the BBC and she might not want to jeopardise that. We shall see.

The Beeb should sell off their sports content to keep Bake Off. I don't want adverts. It will spoil the drama

Good on the BBC. I'd rather they lost it than be bullied about into spending an overpriced sum on a TV show. I know GBBO is brilliant but nothing lasts forever, all successful shows eventually pass their prime, and being extorted into keeping a show that's been running for several years isn't the best financial decision for a publicly funded company. The production company themselves are completely to blame for this, I hope their golden deal with channel 4 fails for them in the long run, and who knows what the BBC will do if they keep the current talent and do something different with them.

Oh dear, they're going to end up doing that annoying thing before each ad break where they tease what'll happen after the break, and then after each ad break recap what happened 3 minutes before.
Bake Off just doesn't need that sort of fake 'drama'.

I know it's a business and all but it's disappointing. Bake Off is just such a BBC show. I know they won't want to give up a good job but I do hope Mel, Sue, Mary and Paul decide to leave at the end of the BBC series. Let them start the show on Channel 4 with a new team.

From the BBC:"The BBC fell £10m short of the amount of money required to keep The Great British Bake Off, BBC News understands. The corporation is thought to have offered £15m per year to keep the programme on the BBC. That would have been double the amount the BBC currently pays for the show [...] But it is understood Love Productions refused to entertain any offers below £25m per year."

There is going to be a big backlash against Love Productions for their greed over this.
I know it is a business - but this is just pure greed. Everyone can see it.

I can see their point. After all, if they're going to sleep on a big pile of money people can hardly expect it to be made of coins, can they?

Given that the £15 million offer from the BBC was double the previous amount paid, Love Productions refusal to accept an offer under £25 million really is excessive. Obviously C4 believes it is worth it - but the BBC were right to hold firm in the face of a price increase of nearly 300%

Love Productions are a business, it's their job to get as much money as possible for their product. You can't blame them for that.
The problem is that the BBC is required to commission content from third-party producers, which means most of their hits can be poached when contracts come up for renewal. A government that wanted to protect the BBC instead of hobble it would be encouraging them to create content in-house, which they actually control, and can make additional revenue from when they turn out to be hits.

All the unnecessary bitching about Emma Rice and the somewhat more necessary bitching about Brexit, when the *real* crisis of leadership is going on over here.

Huge respect to Mel and Sue for not being the massive sell outs society expects and sticking by the BBC and not following the money. I like them even more than I did before.

I fear it may become bit commercial and just loose its vibe when it goes on channel 4. Is there anyway we can stop them from doing this?

"Well me nan died last month and she just loved cake" DEC - " You're through to next week"!

Channel Four will exploit their purchase with a string of spin-offs, starting with a new Junior competition: Master Bake Off.
And a more skilled competition for limbless contestants: The Great British ParaBake Off.

The BBC has referred to "breadxit". I don't know whether that was their creation, but if it was they'd do well to keep quiet about it.
