I'm interested. My companies don't have it. Not surprised as it is so very very hard to book anything at Dartford now. Box office rarely open & online you can only book with a credit card not a debit one. I've tried complaining - to be ignored. That's odd, I don't even have a credit card and I regularly book shows at the Orchard and other HQ theatres with my visa debit card, last time only yesterday.

That is strange.

I cannot see any business would bar debit cards but accept credit cards. Surely most people booking a theatre ticket online would use a debit card which is the same as using contactless in person ?

From the Orchard Theatre website:
Accepted Payment Methods - Credit and Debit Card (Visa, MasterCard and Maestro) The Orchard Theatre Gift Vouchers Theatre Tokens (via our Ticket Office, over the phone or in-person) We do not accept American Express.
Sounds as if any problem is technical, maybe with a card provider, rather than policy.

Have you tried just paying normally by entering your debit card details?

Visa's begin with 4, MasterCard's start with a 5. Double check you're clicking the right option for the type of card you're trying to use? I'm on their page now and I agree, it is very confusing. It does actually say though; "Please enter the information as it appears on your credit/debit card. The address you enter must match the billing address or the credit/debit card transaction may be declined." So it is clear a debit card should work on that screen... If that doesn't work, I'm all out of ideas I'm afraid, you'd have to give them a call!

Just noticed I chose visa [ which my credit card that I don't want to use is ] & not mastercard which my debit card is. Many Thanks.

One final thought having looked at their booking site - if inthenose's solution doesn't work - then try selecting the 'maestro card' option. Maestro was/is the precursor of a Mastercard debit card and it's being phased out completely - but I wonder whether they are actually using this as shorthand for debit card (a maestro card has never been a credit card so their labelling on the payment page is wrong). Maestro cards have always been a bit glitchy online which is one of the main reasons they are being replaced.
Fingers crossed that one way or the other something works!

Looks like the rest of the tour has been pulled. Message from Capital Theatres Edinburgh website:
"Due to the continued impact of the effects of Covid on our audiences and their willingness to return to the theatres, we have unfortunately had to take the decision to close the tour of The Addams Family earlier than planned. We apologise for any disappointment and inconvenience this might cause".

This is sad as it’s an enjoyable little show with some gems hidden amongst the mundane. Is it too soon since the last tour? The lack of CHF? The lack of Les Dennis? It has name recognition…stuff like this is normally lapped up?

It has name recognition…stuff like this is normally lapped up? From looking at Twitter it seems to only be the Edinburgh and Aberdeen dates that are affected rather than whole tour being called off. It was selling fairly well in Edinburgh anyway, so I'm guessing maybe high transport costs and lack of demand at other venues?

With Eastbourne, Oxford, Aberdeen and Edinburgh off sale.
Would be great if ATG would communicate it with those who've booked, as I had booked for Oxford and haven't recieved anything from them yet.

Just heard from ATG about my Oxford tickets. Cancelled. Have requested refund rather than the offered credit voucher.

This certainly isn’t about people’s unwillingness to come to the theatre. It’s their unwillingness to buy tickets to THIS show.

Manchester have just posted about the tour opening in a week so it doesn’t seem cancelled there.

Not sure who’s to blame but the show was in Dublin last week and there was little to no promo/advertising to be seen. I actually don’t think I saw anything. I only knew the show was on because I see a lot of shows and know which shows are our touring. Also I thought it was odd that the show was going out on a second tour only a few years after the first. Maybe it did okay on its first tour but when I looked for tickets while it was in Dublin there was many many seats unsold. At least this time they opted for a small theatre..

We're booked for a mid week matinee in Norwich (along with at least some others!), last week of the month. The week's still on sale (unlike this week's Wuthering Heights which has just now cancelled because of a covid outbreak). Could well be the last week of the tour. The following week in Eastbourne seems to have gone off sale.

I've heard what it is losing per week. Not from someone within the show I should mention, but a very good source. Ouch. They took new investors for this tour compared to the previous (most of whom got out), which didn't do as well financially as you might think (although it broke even comfortably).
Just running this show nightly to the average house it has played since opening is losing a lot of money.
Sad to see it go but I'm hearing this;
"shows on the road go back to places they did well at previously, and never at ones that didn't. Regrettably, people simply haven't come back this time for this show, despite having cut dates at the houses which didn't sell".
In other words, either the draw (cast) was gone or people simply didn't like it first time and don't want to rebook to see it again. I'm thinking the latter, from experience.

Going to try and see it the 30th in Norwich. It's a bit of a drive, but my in-laws live there, so hoping I can spend the night in their airbnb.

Just got back from seeing it in Truro… it really is the Die Hard of franchise musicals isn’t it? It’s some bog standard family melodrama script from 30 years ago, someone pulled out of the draw and then changed a few names and locations after finding enough spare cash to get the branding licence to The Adams Family. I enjoyed it, but after the first 20 minutes, it just felt so bog standard. Joanne Clifton’s arse though… that thing deserves its own billing. Oh for the days of back of seat viewing binoculars

Your comment about Joanne Clifton objectifies her and most people will find it offensive and think poorly of you for making it, so I thought you deserved the chance to edit.

Er.. have you seen the play or know anything of the character she plays? I don’t need to do any objectifying, it’s all done for me. Honestly, stop being so cisphobic, Joanne is a gorgeous woman who proudly displays her figure in the show for harmless titillation. Worlds still turning and no one is being oppressed.

Sadly the musical seems a shadow of the dark and twisted thing it could be. Imagine if if really went for the macabre. warm and loving but still macabre.
