Not sure it quite counts but while chatting to Mark Ravenhill at the Kings Head Theatre after the performance of 'The Haunting of Susan A', Tom Hollander arrived for drinks. Given he's coming to the Almeida to do Patriots, and the Almeida rehearsal rooms are just next door to the Kings Head, I guess it was the end of the working day...

I don't think I will ever be able to top this night at the theatre. A couple friends and myself were at the theatre one evening to see "One Man, Two Guvnors". We were sitting mid-way back in the dress circle. We were sitting there chatting and reading our programs when suddenly there was a "buzz" in the audience. My friend poked me and motioned over towards the aisle to our left and said "That woman looks a lot like the Queen." I looked over in that direction and said "And that looks quite a lot like Prince Philip." We couldn't believe our eyes. There they were coming down the aisle followed by their grandson Peter Phillips and his wife. They took seats in the 2nd or 3rd row of the Dress Circle with all the rest of us "commoners" ... not special "Royal Box Seats". We couldn't believe our eyes. The audience was very respectful of them and didn't bother them though there were many cameras popping up and snapping photos. There were men in black suits standing at all the exits and at the interval they cleared a path for them to leave the auditorium. Not sure where they went during that time but then the men cleared a path once again so they could return to their seats for the 2nd act. It was hard to pay attention to the show as I found myself watching them to see their reaction to the show. They laughed right along with the rest of the audience at the show and definitely seemed to be having a fun night out. This was definitely the highlight of all my nights at the theatre over the years!!

I saw and actually recognized Alexander Armstrong tonight at the ROH for Madama Butterfly. (Confirmed by the people behind me discussing the sighting. Who also said that the man he was with was his brother.)

Not in a theatre but saw Bill Nighy dining in Vasco & Piero’s Pavilion in Soho tonight: not sure who his dining companion was but I overheard ‘Alan Bennett’ so either an admiration of him, a collaboration is possibly in the works or it was a Spinal Tap ‘this much talent’ put-down

David Suchet joined the queue waiting to enter the Harold Pinter for The Seagull. Whilst his determination to act like a normal person is to be lauded, he was immediately surrounded by people pestering him who wouldn't even let him join the queue.
I mentioned this to a member of staff on my way in and he went off to rescue him. He may be a famous actor and a national treasure but the man does deserve t be able to go on a night out without being bothered all the time.

I know someone who worked at a cafe where the Queen of Spain used to come a lot…I think it was near her brothers house. Anyway there was always a routine…always at a certain time when they would be guaranteed to be quiet. It must be just a mindset of how to go everywhere when it is quiet.

Back in the day, Dustin Hoffman was in Stratford for the weekend with his family. Nobody bothered him, nada. I watched from afar in the restaurant as it was then and in the gallery of the Swan, he was in the stalls.

I’m quite shocked that Harriet Thorpe, Gaby Roslin and Arlene Phillips don’t appear to have been there, as they always seem to be at everything too. Can’t blame them though, I’d be the same if I could blag some freebie tickets. 😂
