Eddie Redmayne, Anne Reid and Tim Minchin at Gypsy, Martin Freeman at Hangmen (Royal Court), Elaine Paige, Haydn Gwynne, Louise Gold and Fra Fee at Audra McDonald's concert, Julie Hesmondhalgh and David Suchet at Grey Gardens, Tom Rhys Harries at Farinelli and the King, Tom Stoppard at Hamlet (Barbican)
Su Pollard was in the audience when I went to see Soho Cinders. She is, as you say, completely dotty, but incredibly friendly. I commented that I had loved her performance in Godspell years and years ago, and she was very happy to stand and reminisce about the production. She then introduced me to her friends and came up to me in the bar at the interval to ask me what I thought of the show. I thought she was completely charming!
Su Pollard gives me my "Famous Person Who's Seen Me In The Audience" story. I was in the front row at a panto (sixteen years ago; ye gods) and one of the cast who knew me from elsewhere passed on the word to Su Pollard. Given that I'd never met her it was something of a surprise when she suddenly waved and shouted "Hello, Matthew", and it took a few seconds before the penny dropped.
I have the ability to speak to animals. If they had the ability to understand that speech then we'd really be on to something.
I believe that I have just squeezed past Wallace Shawn, Stephen Dillane and his wife from the Talk House play to get to my seat at The Master Builder tonight. Stephen Dillane touched me up as I brushed past.*
