That is good to hear- how was the staging; is it very low rent or looks decent?
Brenda Edwards is great; looking forward to seeing this.
In our humble Wales Millennium Centre the set design seemed great. Yes, probably achieved on a tight budget, but it keeps the show flowing with lots of scene changes and room for all the dancing. Brenda Edwards got a standing ovation mid-show!
Went down last night and really enjoyed! Something happened at last nights show, and we were wondering if anyone knew if it's a planned part of the production or a genuine blooper.
When Tracy is left behind in jail, Wilbur and Edna discuss how they can help her. (Just before "You're Timeless to Me") Wilbur reveals he has a big plan. He pushes down on a can, and in the past silly string or confetti or something bursts out and Edna says something like "how does that help?". Instead last night, he pushed down on the can and nothing happened. We were genuinely confused about whether it happened intentionally or not.
Really enjoyed the evening! The cast was so much better than the last group we saw in Hairspray a few years ago. Can't praise Brenda Edwards highly enough as Motormouth, or Rebecca Mendoza who was great as Tracy! Norman Pace and Matt Rixon were a blast as Wilbur and Edna, and had great chemistry considering the tour is only a week young. Also, really want to give a shoutout to Gina Murray. The actress playing Velma will never get the same buzz as some of the other roles, but more than anyone else, I thought she was absolutely perfect in her role. Really nailed it!
