I wonder what arrangement ALW had with the BBC. If he helped develop the format and has some form of ownership over it, they might not be able to do a carbon copy.

I honestly don't get why Gary Barlow's suddenly been getting so involved in musical theatre. He was always quite disparaging of it on the X Factor when someone sounded too musical theatre-y

Dannii Minogue giving advice on singing is like Amanda Holden giving advice on talent.

So, looks like there could be 3 musicals running at the same time with songs by this cretin. I hope they all lose massive amounts of money

Tax avoiding scum bag. And actually what's worse than that? He writes bland musicals. He's a nice guy, cute and writes sweet pop songs - but I totally agree. I've seen The Girls and Finding Neverland and the scores are boring, simplistic and nowhere near the standard of Lloyd Webber, Schwartz, Menken, Sondheim and dozens of others I could mention... He needs to pay tax and stay away from theatre projects simply to rub his ego and bank balance! He's just using his fame for a commerical product - that should be illegal on the BBC.

To be honest I don't care about the Take That musical itself. I'm just happy we'll be getting another musical theatre talent show on the BBC. I loved the old ones with ALW. I'd do Anything and Any Dream Will Do were the best seasons. They introduced us to incredible talents like Rachel Tucker, Sam Barks, Lee Mead etc.

Dame Norton mentioned on the radio last week that he'd been in Salford filming the show and that there were some incredible singers. Well, he would say that wouldn't he.
He also pronounced it "Sall-ford". God knows why,

Maria Mckerlane asked him that and he said he wasn't allowed to say yet. Doesn't The Voice air on ITV in January? I wonder if it's up against that? Autumn is already sorted with SCD and X Factor.

As much as I also think it's great that there'll be a musical talent show back on BBC1, the only problem with it being a jukebox musical (with a relatively modern band at the helm of the music) is that the chance of there being much musical theatre promoted will be almost 0%, and the chance of us finding another musical theatre star or already recognised (in the theatre world) personality entering is quite low - unless they go down the route of having musical theatre trained actors singing Take That songs (though to be fair, there are a lot of recent musical theatre performers who can also turn their hand to pop style), or whether they are trying to find those who sing those types of songs authentically. Who knows. But I've no reservations admitting that I'll at least tune into episode 1! Even if it's just for Norton and Giedroyc alone...

They were TV talent shows, but minus most of the X-Factor-esq nonsense - so no crap auditionees for 'entertainment', no reliance on 'sob stories' and no 'joke' contestants. I'm looking forward to the Take That one.

Early next year was what was said in the press release, so I'd guess either in the slot vacated by 'The Voice' or end of March to beginning of June, which was when the previous BBC shows aired.

At the end of the day it's still theatre, which means the people who get cast will have to be able to act. I think that means there'll be quite a few contestants with a theatre background. At least I hope so.

According to entertainment websites and tabloids Lulu will be the second guest judge on Let it Shine, following Amber Riley. They also are reporting the Take That musical shall be called The Band (original!) and aims to tour the UK in 2018. No full West End takeover just yet, thankfully.
Following The Girls, I find this unimaginative titling very tedious, if true. If Gary had his hands in other shows then we may have had The Witch (Wicked), The Drag Queens (Priscilla), The Shoe Factory (Kinky Boots) and The Thief (Les Mis)

I think the show would benefit touring the U.K. first instead of going straight into a West End venue. If it is the story of Take That then I can see it doing very well on tour at a different venue each week.

Is it really gonna be about the real Take That? Wonder if it will feature the very homoerotic relationship Gary and their manager had?!?

They could have used a name of one of their songs. Although to be fair, the best one "Never Forget", has already been used.

Is it really gonna be about the real Take That? Wonder if it will feature the very homoerotic relationship Gary and their manager had?!? Latest interviews rather vaguely say it's about "boy bands of the 80s" or something. In fact, it all sounds a bit freeform, I'm not sure he's even written it yet. If indeed there's much plot at all, it sounds like a concert style show and the clips of the TV programme look more like putting togeher a band, rather than actors. I'll still be watching though.

Gary Barlow "I feel jukebox musicals have got predictable" he says announcing his jukebox musical. Awful man To be fair, you only have to look at posts on here (and posts on the previous board) about jukebox musicals to see that he has a point. Whether his musical is going to bring anything new or original to the genre remains to be seen, but I see nothing wrong with his comment. I find him pretty inoffensive, really. The only thing that bugs me a bit about him is that he seems rather dour. When he pops up on TV being interviewed, I find myself thinking "I wish you'd attempt to crack a smile occasionally!" I hope he's slightly more cheerful on Let It Shine - even ALW managed a bit of levity on the TV casting shows he was involved in. Come to think of it, I'm going to miss his eccentricity on LIS, and his gallery of facial expressions! Incidentally, LIS starts this Saturday.
