I saw this in Manchester earlier on in the week. I came to it 'fresh', ie, never having seen it before, live or filmed, and I deliberately didnt look up snipppets beforehand either. I knew the broad outline of the story and what to expect in terms of singing style. It seems very hyped (see also Six) which then leads to lesser quality in my opinion. I thought it was really really good. Really interesting story, told well. All of the cast were charismatic. I've been admiring the man-from-Ikea and his crib for awhile so it's quite embarrassing I didnt realise it was him until quite late on (I'm blaming my varifocals!!!). Him, King George, Lafayette/Jefferson were all wonderful. (King George was definitely enjoying himself.) I'm not a big fan of rap/hip hop or Greatest Showman style singing but I still really enjoyed it. I would happily see the performance again (and I might well do) but I cant see myself playing the music on repeat. I realise the tickets are expensive (£90 in the stalls, for me) but it is a big cast with a live orchestra and that costs. Good to hear that. I’m in a similar position and haven’t been looking forward to it much. Maybe it will be way better than I’m expecting. Have you never seen it at all Burly?

No, to be honest I’ve had a bit of a downer on it right from the start. From what I thought was a pretty hysterical (over)reaction to the Broadway production, then the buildup to it opening here, the absolute nonsense around ticketing, the prices…I just thought “stuff it, I’m not joining in”. Haven’t watched the filmed version either. But seeing as it’s going to be on stage two minutes walk away from my front door I can’t really NOT see it I think.

Saw tonight in Manchester and it was magnificent. I enjoyed it more than in London, probably because I knew the story better so could relate better to the characters. All the cast are brilliant. And Daniel Boys is an amazing King George.
Tempted to go back but doubt I’ll get as good a deal as I did. Front row end classed as restricted view but it really wasn’t and at £49 a bargain. I believe the same seats are £80+ now.

I think you’ve a better chance on a Monday night than a Friday… for some reason! 🍷 🍺 🥂

I thought Hamilton audiences would be above this somehow as it’s not the sort of show to attract ‘that crowd’ but alas…
What an embarrassment.
Pathetic that people can’t go to the theatre and just sit there.

I’m hoping for the best as I’m at this Wednesday’s matinee. I will stick to the crimble crumble at the Manchester Christmas market beforehand.

Just back from tonight's show with a thankfully well behaved audience. I'd never really understood all the hype but thought I couldn't pass the chance to get a really cheap seat at the back of the stalls in the original ATG Presale. Glad I did as I really enjoyed it. I knew some of the music wouldn't be to my style and I did struggle to hear some of the words in the first few numbers- Shaq was off and alternate Jonathan was on. However I absolutely loved the staging. The choreography and the lighting were amazing. I enjoyed the second half better, highlights for me being The Room where It Happens and the movement in the final duel which gave me goosebumps.

Quoting myself here... but I've offered my niece tickets for her Christmas present so I can go again, heh heh heh. (She really likes musicals but her parents dont at all - weirdos - so I get to be a fabulous relative by taking her myself. Easy win.)

Act 1 ⭐️⭐️ Act 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ So that’s ⭐️⭐️⭐️ overall for me. I just find it hard to connect with rap/hip hop and it’s a good 20 minutes too long. Can’t fault the production values and performances though.
Daniel Boyes wasn’t on as the king but the understudy was good and got laughs in all the right places.
Pleased I saw it, probably wouldn't see it again.

Less is more in some cases, or perhaps the second half of his life was just more interesting? So pleased you gave it a go.

Despite my somewhat dismissive review I found myself watching it on D+ today. So there’s that.
Also, Shaq Taylor is better as Hamilton than LMM. Sorry!

Also, Shaq Taylor is better as Hamilton than LMM. Sorry! I think most performers who have played that role are better than LMM. Lin is a lot of things but a great performer he is not. And I say that as someone who loves his work.

In fact, I thought the same about the people I've seen play Usnavi in In The Heights too but thought his performance in Hamilton stuck out more as a struggle.

Wasn’t there quite a lot of noise at the time it was being filmed about making sure the original cast were featured as much as possible? I guess I was assuming he was considered the gold standard.

It’s LMM that stops me watching the Disney+ recording, especially because of all the great A Hams we’ve had. Its just a bit of a shame because everyone else is great.

I’ve just increased my rating from ⭐️⭐️⭐️ to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.
This show has crossed my mind several times since I saw it a couple of weeks ago and today I found myself singing rapping “re-imagining” the performance of My Shot in my head.
Something’s definitely stuck, so my childish, stubborn “It can’t be that good I’m not going to like it” attitude was wrong and I’m very happy to admit it 🙂
Might look at prices again at the end of the MCR run… 🙈

This probably won't happen for the next few weeks being busy but hopefully in Jan there may be a few bargains to be had.

Bought a ticket for this last week about an hour before curtain up and bagged a few rows back in the stall, dead centre for about £55 - a proper bargain to be honest.
Having not seen any production in person before - just the filmed version - I was excited to finally see it. It didn’t disappoint thankfully, Shaq Taylor was excellent as Hamilton and I loved Billy Nevers as Lafayette/Jefferson - a proper stand out!
Helpless into Satisfied really is the best part of the show for me though and it comes so early on I did feel like I was chasing the high of that particular 1-2 punch the rest of the show.
4/5 for me!

I keep humming songs from Six, and have no interest in watching it. That's what you get when you have followed a current alternate Queen on TikTok since her days at Tesco, my FYP is full of Six.

Any idea of any major cast changes for the Wednesday matinee in Manchester?

Looking to go in Edinburgh in March, but the cheapest tickets seem to be £76 in the upper circle. Does anyone know if the theatre might reduce singles closer to the time or if there are any deals around?
