Onegin, fidelio and The bernstein all appeal. Especially the latter, would we of had this if it wasnt for Maestro?
And yay to the Wheeldon and Balanchine mixed bills.
Looks like ill be going 5 times next season.

It is really not an exciting season for me either. None of the singers I wanted to see are in productions here (no Nadine Sierra, Javier Camarena, Piotr Beczala, Benjamin Bernheim etc).
I am interested in hearing Freddie de Tommaso, but can’t justify seeing him in CARMEN, as I am seeing the same production on Sunday.
The only others I might consider are SEMELE and the Bernstein.

The Bernstein double on the back of Maestro is an excellent wheeze and while I'm not over fond of A Quiet Place (Trouble in Tahiti I love) chances to see it are rare so I'll definitely be going. I'd love them to have a go at the Opera House version of Candide some time.
I'll also go to Onegin and Hoffman but that'll be it.

As someone who hasn't been much to Covent Garden in recent years (living out of London, children at home) and now able to go more, I do think there are some solid attractive revivals of operas I haven't seen for ages - Jenufa, Faust, Il Trovatore and others. It is a safe programme with no major thrills, though. I would like to have seen Deborah Warner back after her superb Wozzeck last year. Intrigued by the Bernstein and the Telemann. When do we hear about ENO, I wonder - it was more mid-May last year.

Sorry for more silly questions (I'm still a newbie to ROH performances). Is there a certain way that the principals are allocated to performances or is it more random? From what has been announced I am interested in booking Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Maddaddam but I am also keen to book based on who will be appearing. I have a few dancers I would like to see (Bracewell, Clarke, Kaneko, Hayward and Osipova). Is it likely they will be performing at some of these shows?

The ballet casting should be announced before booking opens, though admittedly it wasn't for either the MacMillan or Ashton triple bills this season. Hayward has danced Alice before so is likely to be cast again. Osipova I would suspect unlikely to be, given she wasn't cast in the last 2 runs since she joined the company as Principal. Kaneko, Bracewell & Clarke have all only become Principals since the last run of Alice so while none of them have danced the lead roles previously they could be cast this time around. I would suspect just based on the type of dancers that have been cast previously that Bracewell is the most likely to be cast. Given Kaneko was cast as Mama Elena rather than Tita in Like Water For Choclate perhaps she might do the Red Queen rather than Alice.
As Maddaddam is new to the company it's not possible to make any guesses at the casting based on past casting so goodness only knows for that. There will probably only be a couple of casts for it though, as it's a short run & that has been the case for other McGregor works.

In that case, I may try and catch Reece Clarke in one of the Ashton triple bills just in case.

Now he'll probably be cast in all the autumn pieces & in hindsight I'll look like an idiot!

Apart from the prices! I was expecting Cinderella to be expensive, given it's the Nutcracker substitute, but I was unpleasantly surprised to find Alice has the same prices. I'm dreading how expensive R&J and Onegin will be, given they are the productions I am likely to want to see the most casts in next season.

I would love to take my daughter to watch a ballet at ROH. We had some tickets for a welcome performance which was cancelled due to covid unfortunately.
I don't think they do those anymore so just looking in general and would quite like to see Romeo and Juliet in 2025. Where can I get an idea of pricing? Any tips on where to be seated for a decent view without a hugely extortionate price? Thanks in advance.

Any tips on where to be seated for a decent view without a hugely extortionate price? Thanks in advance. The still do occasional non-public performances for invited audiences but I have no idea what the criteria are to get invited. At the moment the prices have only just been released for the autumn booking period for the 2024-25 season, and even that is only in grid form & not yet in seating plan form. So the prices for Romeo & Juliet probably won't be released for several months. The top price for Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland are £190, which to the best of my knowledge is a new high for the Royal Ballet, so I fear R&J will probably similarly have higher prices than it's ever had before. Unfortunately getting a decent view at a not too high price is pretty much impossible in the ROH. Anywhere that has an unrestricted view nearer than the amphitheatre is going to be £100+. So if your ticket budget is under that then you have to choose between a distant clear view or a nearer restricted view. My personal preference is always for the latter, as for me being able to see detailed acting is vital, but I can't deny that it can be intensely frustrating when dancers disappear behind one side of the proscenium arch for varying lengths of time.

Dawnstar - out of curiosity, how do you have access to prices already?
Yesterday I saw some good stalls seats for Swan Lake randomly come up with Clarke and Osipova and was in the process of booking whilst at Romeo & Juliet. The lights went down just as I was about to pay. All ten or so tickets had gone when I checked again at the interval. Gutted!

And just now a block of 60+ seats have become available in the stalls in June. Managedto grab one this time. Is this normal for ROH where a show is sold out and then a load become available later on? Is this just normal dynamic pricing?
In any case, at least I get to see Clarke and Osipova. Then hopefully will catch Bracewell and Kaneko again later in the year for Alice.

Dawnstar - out of curiosity, how do you have access to prices already? The information was posted on the Ballet Forum. I gather the prices were emailed out to Friends. And just now a block of 60+ seats have become available in the stalls in June. Managedto grab one this time. Is this normal for ROH where a show is sold out and then a load become available later on? Is this just normal dynamic pricing? It does happen sometimes. When it's seats scattered around the audotorium then it's usually seats that were being held for access bookings, or house seats, or ordinary returns. A block all together sounds like some sort of agency allocation or group booking being returned, at a guess. It's not dynamic pricing. Mercifully the ROH doesn't whack up prices nearer the time like many WE theatres do.

Looks like Alice and Cinderella will both be filmed and screened in cinemas so it’s looking like I may forgo visits to those and instead save for a couple of visits to Romeo and Juliet next year (especially at the prices mentioned above!).
Does anyone know where I can watch the film version of Romeo and Juliet with Bracewell and Hayward? I saw the DVD at the ROH shop yesterday but I haven’t owned a DVD player for several years. I was hoping it would be available online but I can’t seem to find it anywhere.

It was available on the BBC iPlayer for a while, after it was shown on TV, but I've just checked & it's no longer available on there. Also not on the ROH stream. I can't think of anywhere else it's likely to be, though admittedly I'm not someone who streams films so I may be overlooking something.

Oh I didn't see any dates for R&J with camera filming? In any case, that is the one I want to see most from the productions this season so will plan a couple of visits for that next year. Thanks for checking iPlayer. I checked a few other streaming platforms and couldn't find it. Thanks as always for your tips and guidance - you'll have to start charging for your consulting services soon

Thanks for checking iPlayer. I checked a few other streaming platforms and couldn't find it. Thanks as always for your tips and guidance - you'll have to start charging for your consulting services soon It's listed on the page for the 2024-5 cinema season www.roh.org.uk/about/cinema-2425 20th March. Perhaps it's not marked on the production page yet because they haven't yet decided on the casting so don't yet know which will be the other filmed performance. The Alice casting is now out, via the Ballet Forum www.balletcoforum.com/topic/29824-rb-autumn-2024-casting/ I'm pleased to find that my guesses above were spot on! Hayward & Bracewell are cast, together, but no Osipova, Kaneko or Clarke, at least not for the 2 lead roles. Although I'm quite surprised about some of the other casting, with fewer Principals & more younger dancers than I was expecting.
